Mr. Parisi is Diggin’ Slow Horses…

Have you watched this series yet?

I have been enjoying the show “Slow Horses” on Apple TV.  It is a British spy thriller about rejects from the MI5 domestic counter intelligence and security agency that have royally screwed up previous assignments but have not been kicked out of the agency.  Instead, they are relegated to a dumping ground department (Slough House) and are expected to endure dull, paper-pushing tasks and mental abuse from their miserable boss, who expects them to quit out of boredom or frustration.  Somehow, though, the “slow horses” get involved in investigating espionage, abductions, and other spy stuff that endanger Britain.  The dialogue is great, the action is unpredictable, and the performances feel original.  Check it out.

Every week in the WYNK a staff or faculty member shares something they are ‘diggin’! It may be a music artist, a museum, a hobby, a book, a tech tool, a current event, a recipe, a game, a fun fact… you name it - we dig it!

It’s The… Heritage Feast!

Tuesday, November 26, 2024
9:00 am - food dropoff
10:00 am - 11:30 am - Feast
11:50 am - Early Dismissal

We are thrilled to announce the 15th annual Heritage Feast! This beloved GWCS tradition began in 200, when a student approached Ms. Warden with a wonderful idea: to host a Thanksgiving dinner together at school. Ms. Warden, a true champion of community and potluck gatherings, wholeheartedly embraced the idea, and a tradition was born.

Originally, families contributed their favorite Thanksgiving dishes. But in 2010, to celebrate the diversity within our GWCS community, the event transformed! We began encouraging families to bring dishes that represent their unique cultural heritage, and our “Thanksgiving” potluck became the *Heritage Feast*. Ms. Warden even created a catchy Heritage Feast jingle, which echoes through the halls every November!

We invite all GWCS families to join us on **Tuesday, November 26th** for this year’s feast. Feel free to bring extended family, along with a dish that celebrates your heritage! Let’s make this 15th Heritage Feast one to remember.

  • Sign Up to Contribute

  • Drop-Off your contribution by 9:00 am - ready to serve.

  • Crockpots work well for keeping hot dishes warm! We will NOT be able to reheat in the microwave.

  • The Refrigerator has limited space- send cold dishes with ice packs.

  • Label your dishes and utensils with your name and take them back home at the end of the feast.  Please remember to note if your dish is Vegan or Vegetarian as well!

  • Set-Up And Clean-Up parent volunteers are needed. See first two signup slots!

Calling All Gardeners…

Do you have any leftover potting soil, grass seed, or small pots collecting dust? While November may feel like August right now, winter is just around the corner! Ms. Warden is leading an Amazing Days project where students will create "serenity grass" to brighten up the colder months. Imagine the joy of trimming our fresh serenity grasses and filling the air with the scents of spring on a cold, damp day!

Please bring any materials to Ms. Warden’s classroom by November 26th. Thank you for helping make this project possible!

Weekly Song Recommendations…

with Amelia

Hello, this is Amelia Schmutz! I am a junior at GWCS, and I write a section of the WYNK on song recommendations. I hope you enjoy. Feel free to talk to me at school or email me your top recommendations and favorite songs for a future WYNK.

MY
RECOMMENDATION

Salt” – Widowspeak

Widowspeak is one of my favorite music artists of all time. I have listened to their entire catalogue and haven’t heard a single song I didn’t like. Though many do not recognize them, you might be surprised to know that you may have heard them before. Their most popular song “Harsh Realm” appeared in season one of American Horror Story.

“Salt” is a great example of Widowspeak’s indie aesthetic. I could listen to it at any time and in any mood. The song is about a bittersweet breakup. “I’m happy for you,” sings Molly Hamilton, the lead singer. “Well, I have your number. /You know mine's the same. /Still tasting salt. /What I wouldn't say.” Molly Hamilton has such a perfect, sweet, calm voice that I could never get sick of.  They recently hinted about a new album, and I bet it will leave no disappointment.

On a side note, Molly Hamiton and Robert Earl Thomas, guitarist, finally got married after being together for a while. A HUGE congratulations to them. I’m so happy for them.

GWCS RECOMMENDATION

Back in '08"(Explicit) – Molly Grace

Recommended by:
Katie Zeytoonian
(Peter's Mom)

Not only is Molly Grace “… an emerging pop-funk artist celebrated for her lively stage presence, inclusive messages, and genre-defying music,” she is also a family cousin of the Zeytoonian family.

Her music blends pop, funk, and ’70s-inspired elements. She can be compared to excellent artists like Lizzo, Remi Wolf, and Chappell Roan. The Zeytoonian family favorite is “Back in '08.” The song transports you to a carefree day where you can dance around and enjoy life. The song talks about her sister making her a mixed CD in '08. With the fun chorus of, “So you know what? /I'm playing hooky go and tell my boss. /Hop in my 2010 Corolla let's get f*cking lost. /I got a CD that my sister burned back in '08. Let's throw our phones in the backseat we're off the hook today.”

“Beyond music, Molly Grace embraces her identity as a queer, plus-size woman and uses her platform to advocate for inclusivity and representation in the industry. She believes in amplifying marginalized voices and fostering acceptance through her work. Her career milestones include winning Belmont University's Pop Showcase, performing at Bonnaroo, and captivating audiences with energetic performances at venues like Oberlin College.” Said Katie Zeytoonian, Peter’s Mom.

I FULLY recommend you check out her music.

NEW RECOMMENDATION

Do It” – Emma Harner

At only 21, Emma Harner released “Do It” on November 8, 2024. Emma Harner is an accomplished guitarist, songwriter, singer, and multi-instrumentalist known for her eclectic blend of classical guitar technique, folk music, and math rock/mid-west emo riffs. The song is “…about giving your all to something that demands everything from you and getting nothing in return.” Harner posted. “It's just give me what I need. /Give me everything. /Tell me what you need. /If it isn't anything.” “Do it” has sweet vocals and urban flamenco guitar. Though it sounds a bit country, she blends in orchestral bits creating a unique style.
