The GWCS community is coming together to support local families in need by donating grocery gift cards to Britepaths.   Send in grocery gift cards (in denominations of $50 or less) and deposit them in the collection box on Ms. Mauney's desk.  Help us meet our goal of $1,000 in grocery gift cards.  (Preferred cards:  Shoppers Food Warehouse, Giant, Safeway or Walmart)

From the  Britepaths  website:

"In the affluent Fairfax County area, a surprising number of people walk a thin line between self-sufficiency and poverty. More than 181,000 (16%) of Fairfax County residents live in or just above poverty. More than 52,000 children (more than 25%) who attend Fairfax County Public Schools qualify to receive free or reduced-price meals.

The families Britepaths serve are working several jobs to make ends meet, but an illness, car repair or other crisis, coupled with the high cost of living in our area, can quickly put them on the brink of hunger and homelessness. Many who turn to Britepaths tell us that they never expected to have to ask for a handout.

Your volunteer and/or financial support for Britepaths’ programs provides help and hope for someone who lives surprisingly close to you. They could be your child’s preschool teacher or bus driver, your local mechanic, grocer, hair stylist or someone down the street who has fallen on hard times."

Thank You!

We believe that every individual is unique and learns differently and that's how we teach.

From its beginning in 1999, the GW Community School has embraced a unique mission. We have developed an educational program which magnifies the giftedness and intelligence of each student. This is accomplished through a technically advanced college preparatory program that emphasizes authentic learning. Students experience academic challenges and success; they also develop social awareness and a sense of responsibility in an atmosphere where all are treated with respect and kindness. The GW Community School recognizes the unique contribution of parents, students and community members striving for unity of purpose.
