Next Week at GWCS: February 27 - March 5, 2016

STUDENT OF THE WEEK...

The student of the week is TREVOR FERGUSON for representing the GWCS value of SERVICE.

Trevor is always ready to help out, whether it's setting up tables for an event, returning a shopping cart to Giant, or cleaning up rooms after an unexpected flood. And that was just what he did yesterday!

Check out the 'Student of the Week' bulletin board near Mr. Pereira's classroom. Each week a student is recognized for his or her demonstration of one of the eight GWCS Values.

GWCS Values: Learning, Service, Kindness, Excellence, Responsibility, Investment, Team Play, Intellectual Curiosity

HERE'S WHAT...

A huge thank you to all of the parents who braved the tornado last night to come to the PAC Party. Thanks too to all of those who sent their heartfelt regrets, we missed you! We had a great time, made new friends, and cleaned up after a very sloppy mother…nature that is. (Those who were there will appreciate that little joke.)

Please continue to support the school by bidding on auction items—we are nearing our goal!

See you at the next PAC Party on April 13th!

Best,

Alexa

Ms. Warden

  • Location:  Lake Accotink Park, 7500 Accotink Park Road, Springfield, VA  22150 (map) (info)

Dear Coyotes, Parents and Family Members,

Please join The Nature Conservancy and Fairfax County Park Authority to clean up your watershed. This spring cleaning will remove tires, plastic bottles, cans and other debris from local waterways, preventing trash from reaching the nation’s largest estuary, the Chesapeake Bay. The volunteer effort provides a healthy checkup for local waterways in Fairfax County. And, by recording what you remove, you’ll be helping scientists, ecologists and environmental organizations in their efforts to improve our environment. Student efforts will count as community service hours. And Ms. Warden will be there to join the fun. An appreciation lunch and other free, fun events like hikes and campfire programs will take place after the workday. Please dress comfortably in clothing that you don't mind getting dirty in. Please wear closed shoes or boots that can withstand wetness.

INTRODUCING COED SOFTBALL AT GWCS...

Have you ever played softball or wanted to play softball? You are in luck! Come join our inaugural season with Coach Shumard and Coach Fedinatz.

WHO?

All GWCS students, including basketball players, are invited to join the GWCS coed softball team.  No experience necessary. Players must attend practices in order to play in games.

BRING?

You may be asking yourself what do I need to play softball? For practices: bring a softball glove, a water bottle, and a positive attitude!  Wear your regular gym clothes and tennis shoes.  For games, a softball shirt and helmet will be provided.  Tennis shoes can be worn; softball cleats would be preferred but not required.  More details will be provided later.  (If you don't have a softball glove for the first practices, it's not a deal breaker, come to practice.)

WHEN?

We will begin practice during our regular gym period at Audrey Moore RECenter beginning Monday, March 7th.  Our initial practices will be inside the gym and the schedule will be:

  • Mondays at 8:00 am we will work on throwing and fielding.
  • Fridays at 8:00 am we will work on hitting and throwing

GAMES?

Our game schedule is not set yet but we should be able to play 8-10 games this season.  More details to come. Coach Shu and I are looking forward to a fun filled season!

Run hard, turn left,

Coach F.
