Next Week at GWCS... April 11 - 19, 2015

The student of the week is LOEA KANG for representing the value of RESPONSIBILITY. Loea takes every opportunity to make sure things run smoothly. Ms. Shumard was out and Loea rallied her advisory to clean up the café. She helps out whenever possible and ensures class and the community are a better place. Her sense of responsibility extends to her fellow students, who she treats with care and positivity.

Check out the "Student of the Week" bulletin board near Mr. Pereira's classroom. Each week a student is recognized for his or her demonstration of one of the eight GWCS Values.

GWCS Values: Learning, Service, Kindness, Excellence, Responsibility, Investment, Team Play, Intellectual Curiosity

Two years ago I was helping a student with her internship at Earth Sangha's Wild Plant Nursery. We were slowly but surely pulling each and every weed that was growing up in the gravel pathways between our native plants. One of the employees came up to us and offered us strawberries. Concerned about what little but thorough progress we had made, I said, "We're going slowly, but getting all of them." To which she replied, "The way you do anything is the way you do everything."

Think abut that for a moment. Think about how you choose to interact with a workmate. Think about how exhaustively (in the best possible sense) you could fulfill a task. How mindful you could be in a single moment of the day; how well you could listen to a friend;  how much you could absorb if you truly tuned in and forgot about multitasking for just a moment? The smallest things can often be the most important--the most remembered.

Whether at your internships or at OBX, absorb, absorb! Be present in the moment and know that whether listening to a lecture on Civil Rights or sweeping out a bathroom at a recording studio, the way you do anything is the way you do everything.

You make me proud each and every day. Keep doing it. And keep what I've said in mind and heart.

Ms. W.

Teacher Appreciation Week at GWCS is May 4 – 7. The PAC is looking for four individual parents/grandparents/interested adults to each “take a day” that week (Monday through Thursday only) and assume charge of implementing a teacher appreciation event. Previous years’ events have included: brunch/lunch, raffle, flowers, and coffee. Fresh ideas always welcome.

Please contact Kelly at if you can help. We will hold one quick conference call (TBD) to assign the week’s activities and then let the parent volunteers take charge of their assigned days! ALL families will have opportunities to help out that week at the various events! We look forward to hearing form you.
