2017.10.20_Scotty Morgan_EXCELLENCE.jpg

The Student of the Week this week is  SCOTT MORGAN for demonstrating the GWCS value of EXCELLENCE

Scott wakes up every morning and arrives at the gym at 6:00 am to lift weights and play basketball. On the court he is a leader and always gives 100%.

In the classroom Scott has become an excellent student and demonstrates the characteristics necessary to succeed. He takes superior notes, makes corrections and completes every assignment. Scott also assists his classmates helping them complete and understand assignments. Scott is coming into his own at the right time making him a deserved recipient of this week's Student of the WeekAward.

Check out the 'Student of the Week' bulletin board near Mr. Pereira's classroom. Each week a student is recognized for his or her demonstration of one of the eight GWCS Values.

GWCS VALUES: LEARNING, SERVICE, KINDNESS, EXCELLENCE, RESPONSIBILITY, INVESTMENT, TEAM PLAY, INTELLECTUAL CURIOSITY

SIGN UP FOR STREAM CLEANUP

On the last Wednesday of each month*, Ms. Kohler will host a Stream Cleanup community service event where students will not only find themselves immersed in a do-gooder feeling but they will actually make a difference!  Students will practice environmentalism by cleaning up toxic trash that hinders our earth.  In addition to the obvious need to get pollutants out of our water, it has been proven that the more we cleanup the less likely people are to litter!   The location may vary each month, but will most likely take place around the Accotink Trail.

The group will leave GWCS at 3:25 pm and will return to GWCS no later than 4:45 pm for each adventure.  Space is limited to the first 12 students who signup through SignUp Genius each month.  Transportation will be provided for students to and from school.  Students will earn one hour of community service for each event.

  • WEAR long pants and sneakers or hiking shoes.
  • BRING a water bottle.
  • WORK GLOVES will be provided.

Reminder... students are expected to earn at least 30 hours of community service each school year.  Community Service Hours are recorded on student transcripts.

If you missed it last month, CLICK HERE to read about September's Cleanup Event.

*Due to school holidays, some Stream Cleanup events will not be on the last Wednesday of the month, but on the last Wednesday we have school in that month.
