The Student of the Week this Week is NEEL DEVAIAH for demonstrating the GWCS value of RESPONSIBILITY.

Neel has excelled at his internship. He has proven that he can step up and deliver when the pressure is on. Neel shows up every day on time and completes every task that is given to him. His ability to rise to the occasion is admirable and demonstrates that great things are in store.

Neel is becoming  an excellent student and demonstrates the characteristics necessary to succeed.  He is just realizing his potential and is an excellent candidate for this weeks Student of the Week Award for Responsibility.

Check out the 'Student of the Week' bulletin board near Mr. Pereira's classroom. Each week a student is recognized for his or her demonstration of one of the eight GWCS Values.

HONEY-DO LIST FOR
SPRING COYOTE CLEANING DAYS...

coyote CLEANUP #2
SATURDAY, JUNE 9, 2018
8:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Last Saturday morning, a pack of 16 Coyotes students and parents did NOT sleep in – they tightened screws on cabinet doors, refreshed whiteboards, scrubbed tables, vacuumed, sorted, cleaned and organized the GW Community School spaces.  It looks great!  In fact the pack worked SO hard, that the Fix-It/Clean-It day #2 should take much less time (sorry to those wanting to do more community service!).

Still to do are:

  • Hang the new world map wallpaper
  • Paint two classroom walls
  • Touchup paint everywhere (patching complete)
  • Paint door trim
  • Hang several new framed prints

This is a great community service opportunity for students!  Sign up using link below and remember to sign the log at school when you arrive and when you leave so we know how many hours of community service you earned!

Please view the sign up lined in the button below and bring your donations in the morning of Tuesday, June 12th. Every item needs to be 'grab & go'. No need for forks, spoons, paper plates.

Faculty and Staff enjoy the treats as well. PAC will provided a Peet's run for them. Please consider contributing a coffee cake, quiche or fresh baked muffins for the Staff Kitchen.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU...

To all who contributed so generously to GWCS this year through donations, auction participation, CauseNetwork and Amazon, we thank you!

GWCS students are already benefiting from the additional funds provided for trips, technology, teacher appreciation, and our one-of-a-kind graduation.

We are only $811 away from our fundraising goal of $25,000.  If you'd still like to contribute, here's the handy list:

  • DIRECT DONATIONS: Much appreciated and accepted anytime - from now until graduation, through the summer, and beyond.
  • CAUSENETWORK: Use it for your online shopping and summer plans.  Travel sites like Expedia, Travelocity, Lonely Planet, Virgin Atlantic, etc. are included, along with your favorite stores like Target, Walmart, Bass Pro Shops, and many more. You can even reach Amazon through it!  CauseNetwork has contributed over $1,000 to GWCS through our participants this year!

COLLEGE APPLICATION WORKSHOP...

Admissions 101 Workshop
Monday, July 23, 2018
09:00 am - 12:30 pm
McDaniel College
2 College Hill
Westminster, MD 21157

On Monday, July 23, 2018, McDaniel College will be hosting an Admissions 101 workshop -- a special program designed to help students create their strongest college application --before they actually begin to submit applications to any colleges.

We will discuss the major components they want to include in every application and the best practices we know for building their strongest presentation as a candidate for admission. Beginning with an introduction to the McDaniel Commitment and Community followed by a morning of activities that will help prepare students’ applications for admission, breakout sessions will allow them to select parts of the application process that they need to prepare for and get started on them now.

  • Got the first draft of an essay written? Bring it with them and we're happy to do a friendly personal review.
  • Need to build a resume? We will get them started.
  • Not sure how to build or narrow a college search list? We have ideas on that as well!
  • Have questions about the financial aid process? Our financial aid office will discuss how to begin the FAFSA.

Students who attend this event will have their $50 application fee waived AND they will qualify to receive our $1,000 Visit Incentive Grant (a total value of $4,000 over four years) when they submit their completed application by our December 15th Early Action II deadline and are admitted!

Register today in order to reserve your place. For any questions regarding this event, we would be happy to answer them by contacting us at 800-638-5005.

-The McDaniel Admissions Team

P.S.  We're open all summer long and ready to host your students. And, the same visit application fee waiver and incentive grant apply to any one of our daily or group visit events!  You'll find our calendar with available dates and easy online registration on our summer visit page!
