Next Week at GWCS...
May 2 - 10, 2015

The Student of the Week is MATT CATHELL for representing the GWCS value of EXCELLENCE!  Matt has been doing a wonderful job as of late demonstrating what it means to be an excellent GWCS student: coming to class very prepared to engage, participating in class and enriching the level of discourse of his peers, and communicating very effectively through email.

Check out the 'Student of the Week' bulletin board near Mr. Pereira's classroom. Each week a student is recognized for his or her demonstration of one of the eight GWCS Values.

GWCS Values: Learning, Service, Kindness, Excellence, Responsibility, Investment, Team Play, Intellectual Curiosity

Congratulations to MS. WARDEN who was voted GWCS Faculty Member of the Month for April!  Here are a few of the survey comments:

Investment:  "Creating the X-STEM program and then carving out the time to accompany the students to the Convention Center to clearly signal the importance of the event."

Kindness:  "She does it all, every day, with a smile."

Excellence:  "The Warden is a bulwark of amazingosity."

All the Values:  "She has been having a really rough time recently but she still showed up to school and spared time to talk to us."

Responsibility:  "She's simply awesome…so dedicated to the kids!"

Kindness:  "No matter how challenging situations may get, she always is pleasant and balanced in her approach. so lucky to have her."

Mr. Vanya (Mar.), Mr. Pereira (Feb.), Mr. Goldie ( Jan.),  Mr. Fedinatz ( Dec.), Mr. Connelly (Nov.)

Here’s What:

I can't tell you how overjoyed I was when one of our students approached me this week to ask if he could join the GWCS X-STEM Club. He was nervous and didn't know how to get involved, but was so wowed by our recent experiences; he took the initiative to find out more. What he found:

GWCS X-STEM Club at the X-STEM Symposium in D.C.

Here's what: The first rule of X-STEM Club is that anyone can join. At any time. The second rule of XSTEM Club is that anyone can join at any time. The XSTEM Club does not have regularly scheduled meetings, so it won't interfere with whatever else you've got going on. The third rule of X-STEM Club is that you have to be you, which should be easy enough. Let us know the STEM experiences you would like to have and we will try to make them happen. The fourth rule is that many of our activities can also earn you community service hours, though you'd want to do this cool stuff regardless. The fifth rule is that there is no fifth rule. Let's see where we can go with this.

Our next X-STEM adventure is not for mellisophobics! We will bee visiting the hives of GWCS parent, Summer O'Brien. Space is limited. Sign up by emailing Ms. Warden. First seven gets in!!!

May 4-8 is Teacher Appreciation Week!

We have great activities and surprises planned for our fabulous Coyote faculty Monday through Thursday.  We DO NEED contributions of healthy food/items on Tuesday, May 5 for "to go" meals for the staff to take home to their families. Our gift to teachers and staff that day is that they do not have fix their own families a meal!  The idea is that staff will select the items, from a buffet of donated goodies, that they will take home in the to-go containers we provide. Please follow this link to contribute food items:

Lost and Found items will be displayed in the cafe beginning Friday, May 8th.  Anything left unclaimed will be auctioned off.  Yes, you will have to buy your own stinky hoodie back if you don't claim it before the auction!   Included in Lost and Found will be dishes found in the kitchen left from various brunches and meetings.

GWCS is in the Cloud...

      Thanks Convergence!

   Thanks Convergence!

Update on our transition to the cloud:  Our email merge is complete for all students and staff!  On to step two... next week we will be downloading the Microsoft Office 365 software to the school computers during Advisory.  Then, step three will be learning how to best make use of OneDrive, Sites, Calendars and more!  Hopefully, by now, all GWCS families have taken advantage of downloading the Microsoft 365 software to your home computers, tablets and smart phones!
