STUDENT OF THE WEEK...
The student of the week is JOSH BANE for demonstrating the value of INVESTMENT. Josh has really been demonstrating strong investment in his community lately. For example, he’s stepping out of his comfort zone to try improv class and using Workaround to better understand topics discussed in class. Josh’s sense of investment also extends to the way he treats others in the community with genuine care.
Check out the "Student of the Week" bulletin board near Mr. Pereira's classroom. Each week a student is recognized for his or her demonstration of one of the eight GWCS Values.
GWCS Values: Learning, Service, Kindness, Excellence, Responsibility, Investment, Team Play, Intellectual Curiosity
EIGHT YEAR ANNIVERSARY!
Beginning April 10th, and every Friday until the end of the school, GWCS students will be involved in either OBX events (all freshmen & sophomores) or R.E.A.L. Term Internships (all juniors & seniors). These experiential education programs began at GWCS in the spring of 2007 and have grown bigger, better and stronger every year.
Who knew that high school kids could assist in medical procedures and care for premature foals at Virginia Tech’s Marion DuPont Equine Center? Could be in charge of the design and production of a T-shirt that encapsulates a vision and a mission? Could work a sound board for professional musicians? Could assist in building a house from ground up? Could cook on the line for a restaurant that emphasizes quality ingredients and technique? Could assist in the melding of histology and biomechanics to produce real-life solutions? Could help to steer an entire political campaign?
Guess who did…GWCS. We are so proud that our students are marketable and real. They are sought after and offer fresh insight to out intern hosts.
And thank you so much to our intern hosts who believe in our students and the unique vision and gifts they have to offer.
Lastly, but most importantly, thanks to Kristin Stombres, our Internship Coordinator. Kristin has taken the time to get to know each student, discover their passion, and relentlessly search for a matching internship. Kristin has quickly become an integral member of the GWCS community. You should buy her a present.
OBX- Time To Get Excited!

PAC Surprises Staff with Appreciation Coffee on thursday, March 26th
Teachers and staff were very pleased to receive a surprise coffee treat on Thursday morning. It is never easy to keep a secret from all of them, but we do think we managed to catch them off guard this time. Peet’s gift cards previously purchased from parent donations (last time we had a pop up coffee) were utilized. Thank you all for allowing us to show our teachers and staff how important they are to us!

COLLEGE EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITIES...
Not just for seniors!
Attention freshmen, sophomores and junior families! Visiting colleges isn't just for seniors! Even underclassmen can gain confidence and develop a curiosity about going to college simply by attending an event on campus and becoming more familiar with the great unknown. While it may not be a college that your student has an interest in attending at some point, it’s an opportunity to explore and compare different campus settings as in rural vs. urban, small vs. huge, or private vs. public!
With that in mind, following are opportunities coming up in the VA/MD/DC area that you can attend with your student on your own:
George Washington University:
- Saturday, March 28, 2015 - Multicultural Open House (free): http://undergraduate.admissions.gwu.edu/gw-insight-multicultural-visit-day
- Friday, April 3, 2015 - TEDx ($20 per person): http://lisner.gwu.edu/tedxfoggybottom-2015
