Next Week at GWCS... March 21 - April 6, 2015

STUDENT OF THE WEEK...

The student of the week is Kelley Carlisle for demonstrating the GWCS value of LEARNING.  As one of her core-curriculum teachers said recently, "Kelley's enthusiasm during class discussions makes her classes better for all of the students in class."  Kelley has had an excellent year, but she seemed especially poised and involved in her studies this week!

Check out the "Student of the Week" bulletin board near Mr. Pereira's classroom. Each week a student is recognized for his or her demonstration of one of the eight GWCS Values.

GWCS Values: Learning, Service, Kindness, Excellence, Responsibility, Investment, Team Play, Intellectual Curiosity

Robotics Team is going to Sydney, Australia this summer to represent Virginia in the 2015 FTC Asia Pacific Invitational Tournament!  The competition will take place July 12 – 14, 2015 at Macquarie University in Sydney.  To reduce the cost by making a larger group (and to get fans in the stands!) we are opening the trip to ALL INTERESTED members of the GW Community School community.

Jette Hansen (the mother of Paul Whittington, FTC 3749 Robot Driver), who grew up in Australia, is organizing the trip.  If you have any possible interest, please email Jette at jettes.email@gmail.com by Friday, March 27th.   Please include the following information:

1)      Desired Length of Stay (# of weeks)
2)      Desired Points of Travel (Sydney, Melbourne, etc.)
3)      Desired Price Point

PAC PAW PRINTS...

Teacher Appreciation Week

We have the greatest teachers at GWCS!!!! This is our chance to let them know how much we appreciate all they do. The week of May 4-8 is Teacher Appreciation Week.  We are looking for five individual parents to each “take a day” of that week and take charge of implementing a teacher appreciation event (brunch/lunch, raffle, flowers/coffee, etc. ).

Please contact Kelly at hendersonhagen@verizon.net if you can help.  We will hold one quick conference call (TBA) before Spring Break to plan and assign the week’s activities and then let the parent volunteers take charge of their assigned days! ALL families will have opportunities to help out that week at the various events!

Sincerely,

Your GWCS PAC
