From Ms. Warden:

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!

Thank you to our Teacher Appreciation Committe who has been incredibly active this first quarter!

Our staff received gift cards to REI and and L.L. Bean after Camp Coyote, Amazon gift cards after Gettysburg, and a beautiful wallet and possibly the best smelling candle on the planet after the Senior Essay Writing Retreat. We are all blessed to get to spend time with your children and to be recognized afterward. We are small but mighty and have the best community ever.

Thanks also for the Spooktacular Teacher's Brunch this morning! You'll be sending us off satiated for a long weekend of end -of-quarter grading!

Warmly,

Alexa

Calling all Facility Folk! (Well actually, this could just be a half-day job for two future best friends...)

We are in need of a couple of parents to recover the chairs in the café. This is a relatively easy task that just requires use of a scissors, a Phillips head screwdriver, and a staple gun. Oh, and a trip to Joanne Fabrics. Email Ms. Warden if you are interested!

Psst… we’re heading back to Staunton...

for the STAUNTON SHAKESPEARE TRIP!

NOVEMBER 11-13, 2022

GWCS students are invited to join Mr. Goldie and Ms. N-O on a road-trip down to Staunton, Virginia to take-in three Shakespeare plays, learn Shakespeare staging, eat at Staunton’s best restaurants, wander around the historic downtown, explore Luray Caverns, consume ice cream and baked goods every night, and stop to romp around the Frontier Culture Museum in between all the fun.

See our full (tentative) itinerary here!

In order to secure our rooms/tickets/dinner reservations we need a headcount to work with, so please sign-up quickly by bringing a check for $595.00 to school and giving it to Ms. Nuñez-Oliver or Mr. Goldie.  Spots will fill-up quickly and tickets are limited!

Save the Date: Tuesday, November 22nd 10:00 am to 12:00 pm! It's the...Heritage Feast!

The Heritage Feast is a GWCS tradition that began in 2010 when a student asked Ms. Warden if the GWCS family could have a Thanksgiving dinner together at school.  Ms. Warden, who always says yes to a good pot-luck dinner, endorsed the idea and a tradition was born.

In the beginning, families contributed their favorite traditional thanksgiving dish.  A few years ago, to celebrate the diversity of our school community, we spiced it up by asking families to send in food that represented their heritage and changed the name to Heritage Feast.  Ms. Warden also created a catchy Heritage Feast jingle that is echoed around school the month of November.

So, start thinking of your favorite family recipes and stay on the lookout for a Sign-Up Genius in next week's WYNK. Parents, siblings, family, and alumni are encouraged to attend!

Donations for GWCS Snackalicious!

SNACKALICIOUS IS BACK!

Students need healthy "to go" snacks as they move through the day. Please review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up if you are able. Thank you!

On Monday (any week you chose) bring or have your student deliver snacks of your choice.

Suggestions - Cheese and crackers, hummus and pita chips, guacamole (in single serve packages) and tortillas, bananas, cuties, clementines, grapes washed and cut into bunches, raisins, craisins - what's your fruit?

Additional dates will be added monthly.

FRESH VEG NEEDED…

ESPECIALLY KALE!

This is Tortellini, our resident Russian Tortoise.

He is a ferocious plant eater. Kale leaves quake in his presence.

We have three turtle friends: Grouchy and Sweetie (red-eared sliders), and Tortellini (Russian tortoise). They are all on a natural raw diet which mainly consists of fresh, leafy greens! If you have any veggies from home or want to purchase and donate food items - it is much appreciated! Please bring donations directly to Ms. Kohler in the lab. The below list are their favorite staples. Thank you for helping keep our beloved school pets well nourished!

  1. Kale

  2. Mustard greens

  3. Shredded carrots

  4. Yellow squash

  5. Zucchini
