Next Week at GWCS... April 18 - 26, 2015

STUDENT OF THE WEEK...

The student of the week is Logan Pawlik for representing the value of KINDNESS.  "When our parent volunteer was not able to continue with the Recycling Club, Logan agreed to collect and deliver the recycling each week."

"In class, Logan always has a positive attitude and he is supportive of his fellow students and teachers."

"Logan has demonstrated resilience.  He has bravely emailed, called, and personally introduced himself to over five automotive shops asking to volunteer his time for his internship.  Even when denied his request, he persevered and went on to the next shop hoping for a better outcome."

Check out the 'Student of the Week' bulletin board near Mr. Pereira's classroom. Each week a student is recognized for his or her demonstration of one of the eight GWCS Values.

GWCS Values: Learning, Service, Kindness, Excellence, Responsibility, Investment, Team Play, Intellectual Curiosity

PAC PAW PRINTS...

HOW ABOUT LENDING A HAND FOR TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK?

Teacher Appreciation Week at GWCS is May 4 – 7. The PAC is looking for ONE MORE individual parent/grandparent/interested adults to “take a day” that week and assume charge of implementing a teacher appreciation event.  Previous years’ events have included: brunch/lunch, raffle, flowers, and coffee. Fresh ideas always welcome.

Please contact Kelly at hendersonhagen@verizon.net if you can help. We look forward to hearing form you.

MEDICATIONS NEEDED...

It is allergy season.  If your child has a sensitivity to pollen or other spring time allergies, PLEASE send in allergy medication to GWCS ASAP to be kept in Mr. Mallonee’s office.  Keep medication in it’s original box and label it clearly with your child’s name.

WebMD has a helpful article about how to manage spring allergies:  http://www.webmd.com/allergies/features/how-to-survive-spring-allergies

GWCS TAKES TO THE CLOUD

Over spring break Convergence began moving GWCS to the Cloud!   There are many steps in the process and we thank you for your patience as we make this huge transition!

GWCS Cloud Update:  As of April 16, 2015 all of the student and staff old GWCS email accounts have been merged with their new O365 accounts.  Everyone should be using O365 email exclusively at this point!  Next week we will download all of the Microsoft Office 365 software including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.  Over the next few weeks we will begin adapting some of the many resources O365 has to offer such as Calendars, OneDrive, Sites and Tasks.  For example, some of the teachers will be sharing O365 Class Calendars where they will list homework assignments in one location instead of through daily emails.

WORKSHOPS & CDs...

GWCS has a collection of "Celebrate Calm" cds available for our families to borrow.  If you're interested, please contact Ms. Mauney to see what is currently available to be checked out.

There are seven live Celebrate Calm Events taking place in NOVA and Maryland next week from April 20 - 24, 2015. The workshops are free, open to the community and there is no need to register.
