NEXT WEEK AT GWCS...
MAY 9 - 17, 2015

STUDENT OF THE WEEK...

The Student of the Week is TARIQ FORAIDA for demonstrating the value of INVESTMENT. During Coyote Day, Tariq displayed fantastic team spirit and put his all into each and every event. In class, his teachers praise his focus and engagement with the material.

Check out the 'Student of the Week' bulletin board near Mr. Pereira's classroom. Each week a student is recognized for his or her demonstration of one of the eight GWCS Values.

GWCS Values: Learning, Service, Kindness, Excellence, Responsibility, Investment, Team Play, Intellectual Curiosity

Here’s What:

Don't Let This Be You!

At least six or seven times a year we see the terrible results of a so-called "courtesy accident" turning left from Braddock Road into our school parking lot. What happens is that the left two lanes of Braddock Road eastbound are completely stopped, but the far right turn lane is clear. Many times the stopped drivers travelling eastbound wave left-turning drivers on through. A serious problem arises when someone is travelling in the far right turn lane at speed of 45 mph and higher. You can see the result.

From now on, please do not turn left into the school when traffic is stopped. If eastbound traffic looks heavy, turn left at the light on Burke Lake Road, then right on Rolling Road and right into our back parking lot. Alternatively, continue on Braddock Road to the light at Rolling Road. Turn left on Rolling Road and left into our back parking lot. You may turn left from Braddock into the front parking lot, but only when all three lanes are clear.

Love,
Ms. W.

I like to use books to supplement our lessons, even though they aren't written the best way."

Mr. Pearce will be taking over Mr. Vanya's classes for the rest of this year.  Please make him feel welcome!  pearcet@gwcommunityschool.com

PAC PAW PRINTS...

Howling Good Help

This week, the Coyote PAC treated the fabulous GWCS staff to morning coffee and treats, dinners to-go, catered lunch, a fun raffle, and flowers in personalized flower pots from the students. Thank you to all the families who sent in food Monday and Tuesday - the delicious items were quite welcome and enjoyed! Thank you to all who helped out with specific events throughout the week: Cristie Carlisle, Robin Abatzis, Nancy Burns, Kathy Ginsburg, Ellen Sullivan, Mary Beth Cole, Pat Quarti, Kelly Henderson Hagen, Sharon Saile, Katie and John Foster, and  Kim Carter. We all have busy lives and other family and work commitments, so it is extra meaningful that so many Coyote families contribute their time and talents to teacher appreciation week!

Help Wanted

Our incredible Facilities Chairperson, Nancy Burns, is looking for a co-chair to assist with the planning, coordinating and implementing of facility projects at the school. This year we saw the execution of an amazing painting project, which totally transformed our school into a work of art.  Without the generous donation of time and energy from our families, none of this could have been possible. There are always projects waiting for the DIYers of our community. As co-chair, only the desire and ability to help organize and coordinate activities are requirements. Nancy can use you! For more information or to express an interest, please contact Nancy directly:  burnsfamily.06@gmail.com
