Enroll Today for 2025-2026 School Year…
contract & registration fee Due: March 28, 2025
Hello GWCS Families (Grades 7-11),
Your re-enrollment packet for the 2025-2026 school year should have landed in your mailbox by now. Although September may seem far away, the GWCS staff began planning for the next school year months ago. For your convenience, the same documents that were mailed are linked below.
If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Goldie at goldiera@gwcommunityschool.com.
R.E.A.L. Term Co-Op Planning is Underway!
We’re thrilled to share that planning for this year’s R.E.A.L. Term Co-Op program is in full swing! A huge thank you to the parents who attended our kickoff coffee—we truly appreciate your support, guidance, and enthusiasm.
R.E.A.L. Term Co-Ops (Realistic Education and Authentic Learning) are a hallmark of GWCS. We launched the program in 2007 after recognizing that our vibrant extracurricular life often left students with limited time outside of school to explore the working world. Since then, our Co-Op program has helped launch incredible careers in fields ranging from mechanics to hospital administration—and everything in between!
Special thanks to Liz Strats for leading a resume-writing workshop to help students get started.
GWCS has built strong partnerships over the years, but we always welcome parent support. R.E.A.L. Term Co-Ops will take place on Tuesdays from April 8th through May 27th.
Coyotes Care About… PUPS!
COLLECTING OLD T-SHIRTS TO MAKE PULL TOYS!
SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES - mONDAYS & fRIDAYS
COYOTES gather:
WHEN? Every Monday & Friday
TIME: 7th period (2:22 pm)
LOCATION: Ms. Warden’s Classroom
The first meeting of Coyotes Care was a great success! Students brought their coyote enthusiasm and brilliant ideas and identified a few community service projects to work on during the Spring semester. First on our list: making tug toys and treats for animal rescue organizations. So, we need your old T-shirts! As you switch out your sweaters for T’s and tanks, please consider donating your unwanted T-shirts to support our efforts! This will be an ongoing project, but we hope to start on Monday, March 3rd. A collection bin will be set up right by the front desk.

The Flight of the Montgolfier Brothers’ First Hot Air Balloon (circa 1783) - Recreated…
Mr. Howarth’s History of Science class (Myat, Ryan, McKenzie, and Anna) recreated the flight of the Montgolfier Brother's first hot air balloon in 18th century Paris! The balloon escaped the park and flew into the neighborhood! Huzzah!

Spring PSAT & SAT Update…
What You Need to Know:
All GWCS 8th, 9th graders have been signed up to take the PSAT 8/9 Exam
All GWCS 10th graders have been signed up to take the PSAT 10 Exam
All 11th and 12th graders have the option to take the SAT Exam
ALL STUDENTS should opt-in or opt-out of the spring SAT/PSATs by clicking the button below.
GWCS uses the results of the PSAT for underclassmen to identify students' academic strengths and weaknesses, and then uses this data to strengthen the GWCS curriculum.
What if you’re NOT scheduled to take an exam? Stay tuned for more details about test-day as we get closer to April. GWCS covers the cost this year.

Weekly Song Recommendations…
with Amelia
Hello, this is Amelia Schmutz! I am a junior at GWCS, and I write this section of the WYNK on song recommendations. I hope you enjoy. Feel free to talk to me at school or email me your top recommendations and favorite songs for a future WYNK.
MY
RECOMMENDATION
“Sitt Ner (Lilla Jag)” – Nektar
I listen to a lot of Swedish music, but Nektar has instantly become one of my favorites. They sound like The Strokes and early Radiohead if they spoke Swedish. “Sitt Ner (Lilla Jag)” or “Sit Down (Little Me)” is the first track on their first, and so far only, album “Magnolia.” It was so hard for me to pick my favorite track from “Magnolia.” They were all SO GOOD! The upbeat drums mixed with distorted guitar all wrapped with a perfect melodic bow. The lyric are also so beautiful and deep. Translated, “Sorry if I'm going way too fast. /But I never got this far. /And sorry if what I said sounded gross. /But I have never felt this cramped. /And I sit down. /Because I can't stand.”
GWCS RECOMMENDATION
“Killing Me Softly With His Song” – Roberta Flack
Recommended by Jocelyn Adamoli (Charlie’s mom)
After hearing the sad news that the beautiful, immensely talented Roberta Flack passed away this Monday, February 24, 2025, I thought it would be fitting to look back and appreciate all the good music she brought to the world.
Although “Killing Me Softly With His Song” is a cover from Lori Liebermann, Roberta Flack’s version is the most iconic. The song couldn't be sung more beautifully, with such anguish and yearning than when Roberta Flack did. Flack first heard “Killing Me Softly With His Song” on an airplane, and she said that the song “smacked me in the face.” The rest is history. Her soft, elegant, soul voice will haunt me with the words “Strumming my pain with his fingers, singing my life with his words. /Killing me softly with his song.”

NEW RECOMMENDATION
“All Night” – Robo
This York-based band brings a familiar yet original indie-rock sound. “All Night” was released as a single on January 25, 2025. The way that they mix upbeat, jazzy drums and layered, dreamy and softly distorted guitar is so enjoyable. “All Night” transports you to an amazing dive bar feeling. Robo is definitely someone to keep on the radar. I know I will.
