2018.01.05_Josh Bellows_RESPONSIBILITY.jpg

The Student of the Week this week is JOSH BELLOWS for demonstrating the GWCS value of RESPONSIBILITY!

Everyone knows that Josh is a good student, but not everyone knows that Josh has a formula for being a good student, although others would be wise to learn from his example. Josh often spends an hour after school doing his homework before he goes home (home—Notoriously not a good place for many people to get homework done). Josh will, at times, open a book and read for fifteen minutes during the school day (reading, the one trait that truly separates successful students from every other student). Also, last week, when nobody else could/would do it, Josh wrote thirty, tongue-in-cheek, Christmas jokes for the Holiday Pageant in his spare time! Josh takes his responsibilities seriously, works to maintain his good grades, and makes an effort to help-out whenever he can. He also knows what Gary Busey asked Santa Claus to bring him for Christmas!

Check out the 'Student of the Week' bulletin board near Mr. Pereira's classroom. Each week a student is recognized for his or her demonstration of one of the eight GWCS Values.

The GWCS PAC Fundraising committee is soliciting donations NOW for this year's online auction which will take place from March 6 – 15, 2018!

The auction is a fun way to help your student directly by providing for student trips, technology, teacher professional development and the traditions that make GWCS unique.

The donation deadline is only 7 weeks away – February 23, 2018, and our goal is an ambitious $25,000 – so here is what you need to know (WYNK):

What should I donate?

The Best-selling auction items from the past include:

  • Experiences like vacation houses, cultural dinners, parties for students or parents, cooking lessons, beer tastings, wine parties, Ladies Night Out parties, etc.
  • If you have a contact at a local business, please consider asking them for a donation.
  • Another idea is to re-gift quality items received during the holidays - wine, cognac, chocolates anyone? (New items only though)
  • Get more ideas from last year's 2017 Auction Website!

I already know what I want to donate!

What do I do next? Easy as 1,2,3

  1. Go to the GWCS website
  2. Select the “Support Us” tab
  3. Fill out the online 2018 Auction Donation Form

Your donation will then be reviewed, approved and entered into the GWCS auction site – ready for bidders on March 6th!

Can’t think of or need help with an idea?

Don’t hesitate to contact Kim Dwyer, our amazing donation guru, at kim_dwyer@verizon.net!

All GWCS junior families are asked to sign up for a 30 minute conference with Ms. Warden and Mr. Pereira on either Thursday, February 1st or Friday, February 2nd.  The sooner you sign up the more likely you are to get the day/time that works best with your schedule.  This seems super early to be announcing this but we understand that some families need more advanced planning to schedule a day time conference.

The purpose of the junior family conferences is to discuss the GWCS college application process which begins NOW.  There are so many steps that can, and should, be taken during junior year to ensure a smooth, successful and enjoyable senior year.
