I’m Diggin’ our Happy, Healthy, Sparkling Aquarium
Located in the Science Lab
This week, I'm thrilled about the makeover of one of our fish tanks! A massive shoutout to the GWCS Foundation for funding this renovation, and huge thanks to Señor Paul for his expert advice, dedication, and care in bringing it to life. Special appreciation also goes to Maeve and the many students who have poured their efforts into this project. I'd say it's going swimmingly.

Every week in the WYNK a staff or faculty member shares something they are ‘diggin’! It may be a music artist, a museum, a hobby, a book, a tech tool, a current event, a recipe, a game, a fun fact… you name it - we dig it!

It’s The… Heritage Feast!
Tuesday, November 26, 2024
9:00 am - food dropoff
10:00 am - 11:30 am - Feast
11:50 am - Early Dismissal
We are thrilled to announce the 15th annual Heritage Feast! This beloved GWCS tradition began in 200, when a student approached Ms. Warden with a wonderful idea: to host a Thanksgiving dinner together at school. Ms. Warden, a true champion of community and potluck gatherings, wholeheartedly embraced the idea, and a tradition was born.
Originally, families contributed their favorite Thanksgiving dishes. But in 2010, to celebrate the diversity within our GWCS community, the event transformed! We began encouraging families to bring dishes that represent their unique cultural heritage, and our “Thanksgiving” potluck became the *Heritage Feast*. Ms. Warden even created a catchy Heritage Feast jingle, which echoes through the halls every November!
We invite all GWCS families to join us on **Tuesday, November 26th** for this year’s feast. Feel free to bring extended family, along with a dish that celebrates your heritage! Let’s make this 15th Heritage Feast one to remember.

Calling All Gardeners…
Do you have any leftover potting soil, grass seed, or small pots collecting dust? While November may feel like August right now, winter is just around the corner! Ms. Warden is leading an Amazing Days project where students will create "serenity grass" to brighten up the colder months. Imagine the joy of trimming our fresh serenity grasses and filling the air with the scents of spring on a cold, damp day!
Please bring any materials to Ms. Warden’s classroom by November 26th. Thank you for helping make this project possible!
Weekly Song Recommendations…
with Amelia
Hello, this is Amelia Schmutz! I am a junior at GWCS, and I write a section of the WYNK on song recommendations. I hope you enjoy. Feel free to talk to me at school or email me your top recommendations and favorite songs for a future WYNK.
MY
RECOMMENDATION
“A.S.M.R Lover (feat. Skeltal Ki)” - RuPaul
I discovered the magic that is RuPaul at the beginning of the year. RuPaul’s music has been bringing a smile to my face when I’ve been down lately. A.S.M.R stands for autonomous sensory meridian response which is often used to calm down stress. It is also mostly known for whispering. “You make me feel. /Whisper in my ear.” The song has a punchy beat and fun lyrics that I find myself singing out loud subconsciously. One of my favorite lyrics from the song is “A.S.M.- Are you for real?” There is something that is very clever about that to me. The drag queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race season 16 made a remix of the song for a challenge in the show. It is definitely worth a watch. The queens are so unbelievably talented.

GWCS RECOMMENDATION
“California Magic” – Goose
Recommended by Mr. Parisi
Goose songs are as good as they are long, very. “If you had ten minutes to live and you could only listen to one song, you could listen to half a Goose song” Mrs. Parisi once said. The track plays at a whapping 12:18 minutes, and it’s worth every second. "California Magic" describes the allure and mystique associated with California. Particularly the idea of finding something extraordinary or transformative within the state's culture and lifestyle. The line “Long time listener, first-time caller” has the idea of being an observer of this California magic, but now finally participating or fully immersing in it. Though the song is long, the twangy guitar transports you to a desirable jazz scene.
NEW RECOMMENDATION
“Beauty has laid siege to the city” – Pet Shop Boys
The Pet Shop Boys released ‘Beauty has laid siege to the city’ as a single on November 7, 2024. They are most well known for their hit song “West End Girls.” They never let you down with an awesome poppy beat. The song hints to all sexual persuasions among these "beautiful people," You don't have to be a mathematician to discern that "beauty" and "the beautiful" seem to be code-words for the LGBTQIA+ community. “The ugly are fighting back. /Passing laws enforced by bores. /Beauty is under attack.” The song will fill you fill joy and optimism. As we approach this upcoming presidency, it is very important that we acknowledge the support and joy that the LGBTQIA+ community brings to the world.
