SENIOR BEACH TRIP PHOTOS
May 26–29
Bethany Beach, DelawarE
The Senior Beach Trip was an absolute blast! We ate well and relaxed hard, enjoying everything from pancakes and eggs for breakfast to ice cream for dessert. We spent our days and nights at the beach, mesmerized by the sounds and sights, only taking a break when it rained. Even then, we had fun swimming at an indoor pool and exploring the wild exhibits at Ripley's Believe It or Not. Bethany Beach was a perfectly quaint town with idyllic boutique shops. We felt completely pampered by the nicest concierge staff. Filled with laughs and peaceful moments, our trip was a wonderful vacation all around. Way to go GWCS Class of 2025!

SUMMER BOOK
Every Day
by David Levithan
Every Day follows the story of "A," a mysterious being who wakes up each morning in a different body, living a different person's life for 24 hours. A has accepted this strange existence—never forming attachments, never interfering—until one day, they wake up in the body of Justin and meet his girlfriend, Rhiannon. For the first time, A wants something more: connection, love, and a sense of permanence. As A begins to pursue a relationship with Rhiannon across shifting identities, the novel explores deep questions about identity, empathy, and what it means to truly love someone for who they are on the inside.

Weekly Song Recommendations… Grand Finale!
with Amelia
I would like to give a massive shoutout to Amelia for her hard work, passion, and dedication to providing us with 99 new songs to explore this year! She wrote 33 Weekly Song Recommendation columns recommending three songs per column. Amelia’s recommendations absolutely made my time working on the WYNK more enjoyable as I listened to the songs while I worked on the newsletter. I loved so many blasts from my past as well as being exposed to bands I never would have heard about. My personal favorite was last week as I am a big Hozier fan! What was your favorite?
Thanks Amelia!
Mrs. Sinichko

Hello, this is Amelia Schmutz! I am a junior at GWCS, and I write this section of the WYNK on song recommendations. I hope you enjoy. Feel free to talk to me at school or email me your top recommendations and favorite songs for a future WYNK.
MY
RECOMMENDATION
“West Coast” – Lana Del Ray
Earlier this year I was living my Lana Del Ray fantasy. By that I mean I was in a toxic relationship but slaying, serving, and romanticizing the heck out of it. Pro-tip: don’t do that!
Lana Del Rey’s “West Coast,” the lead single from her 2014 album “Ultraviolence” produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys. “West Coast” plays with dualities like fame and emptiness, love and destruction, freedom and longing. The West Coast becomes not just a place, but a feeling or an aesthetic. The song starts with a seducing noir-like guitar riff accompanied with Lana sultry whispering, “Down on the West Coast, they got a sayin’.” Mid-song, the tempo changes from 123 beats per minute to 50 which creates a smooth transition that will scratch an itch you didn’t know you had. The guitars shimmer and distort like heat rising from pavement.
GWCS RECOMMENDATION
“Messy” (Clean) – Lola Young
Recommended by Aung
“Old Wisdom”
“Wisdom Music”
Lola Young’s “Messy” is a raw, unapologetic anthem that captures the chaos and contradictions of modern life. It was released on May 30, 2024, as part of Lola’s album “This Wasn't Meant for You Anyway.” The track quickly became a sensation on TikTok and charting globally, including a number one spot in the UK and Australia.
“Messy” opens with a sparse arrangement of gently plucked guitar chords and understated drum patterns, creating a laid-back atmosphere that allows Young’s voice to take center stage. Her vocals are both soulful and raspy, conveying her vulnerability and frustration. As the song progresses, the production builds, incorporating elements of alt-pop and 90s alternative rock, reflecting Young’s influences from artists like Amy Winehouse and The Cure.
The song’s lyrics delve into the complexities of self-perception and societal expectations. “Cause I’m too messy, and then I’m too f**king clean. /You told me get a job then you ask where the hell I’ve been. /And I’m too perfect ‘till I open my big mouth. /I want to be me, is that not allowed?” These lines encapsulate the internal conflict of trying to meet external expectations while grappling with personal identity.
The relatability and raw honesty from the song has resonated with people worldwide. It became a soundtrack for those navigating toxic relationships, societal pressures, and self-doubt. “Messy” is more than just a song; it’s a declaration of authenticity in a world that often demands perfection. Lola Young’s blend of soulful vocals and genre-blending production makes this track a standout.
NEW RECOMMENDATION
“Sugar! Honey! Love!” – Kali Uchis
Kali Uchis’ “Sugar! Honey! Love!” is the second track from her new album “Sincerely” that came out on May 9, 2025. The album is a lush, emotionally charged ballad that blends R&B, soul, and a touch of experimental pop. “Sugar! Honey! Love!” is a stunning track that encapsulates Kali Uchis’ ability to blend vulnerability, strength, and sweetness into a seamless musical experience. This experience has a softness, cinematic production, captivating vocals, and emotional depth. Uchis has created a track that is as soothing as it is empowering, leaving listeners with a sense of hope and warmth. It's a perfect example of her artistry, and it proves that she is a master at crafting deeply emotive, yet effortlessly cool music.
“Sugar! Honey! Love!” opens with a soft, honeyed guitar tone, setting the stage for Uchis’ evocative and angelic voice. Her delivery is both delicate and powerful, effortlessly drawing listeners into a world where love and sweetness intertwine. As the track progresses, it shifts to a more uplifting and redemptive tone, illustrating that the arrival of pure, unconditional love can restore and heal symbolized through the repetition of “sugar, honey, love.” In the final moments of the song, Kai Uchis reaches higher, more ethereal pitches, not only showcases Uchis’ vocal range but also her willingness to push boundaries in her sound.
