Tours
May 27, 2025
Destination:
History Tour of Old Towne Alexandria and Exploring the Torpedo Factory
Coyotes: Please arrive at school at 8:30 am on Tuesday (5/27). We are going to be leaving the school NLT 9:00 am and will park in the Torpedo Factory Garage at 102 N Union St in Alexandria.
Our tour begins at 10:00 AM and starts in front of the fountain on Market Square (301 King St.). The tour takes about ninety minutes and then we will break for lunch. Lunch will be at one of several restaurants near the square. It will be grab and go/fast casual. Some suggestions are: La Madeleine, Taco Bell, Starbucks, Chipotle, Sweet Green, Caphe Banh Mi, etc.
We will reconvene at the Torpedo Factory at 1:00 pm, This is a WW2 munitions factory that has been repurposed as art studios and workshops. After spending some time there, we will leave to return to GWCS around 2:15 pm.
The weather reports are suggesting that the day will be cool and dry until sometime around noon. If rain comes early we will move to the indoor portion of the program as soon as necessary. It might not be a bad idea to bring a poncho!
You will need cash/credit to purchase lunch, and there are many things for sale at the Torpedo Factory that you may find that you cannot live without!
Looking forward to walking in the footsteps of giants with you on Tuesday!

Free 3D Printing, Courtesy of Josh!
Hello GWCS! My name is Josh and I am an 8th grader at GWCS.
You may have noticed some flyers around school about FREE 3D printing. As the flyers say, if you would like a FREE 3D print, I can do that for you! Below are some examples of what I have printed, but I can print almost anything. A few of the things I will not print include guns, knives, weapons, replica weapons, and other similar items.
If you have an idea, but don’t have a model, try going to thingiverse.com and browsing the thousands of models they have available. Once you find something you like, shoot me an email at wcacuber1@gmail.com, or text me at 703-407-6590.
While these prints are free, donations are greatly appreciated! 50% of all donations will go to the GWCS Foundation.
That wraps up my part of the WYNK, thanks for reading!

Weekly Song Recommendations…
with Amelia
Hello, this is Amelia Schmutz! I am a junior at GWCS, and I write this section of the WYNK on song recommendations. I hope you enjoy. Feel free to talk to me at school or email me your top recommendations and favorite songs for a future WYNK.
MY
RECOMMENDATION
“Abracadabra” – Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga’s latest album, “MAYHEM,” is one of the best records I have heard in a while. There are zero skips on it. There isn’t even one song that I don’t slightly vibe with. “MAYHEM” is absolutely a masterpiece!
It was SO hard for me to choose my favorite song from this record, but I chose “Abracadabra” because there is an intenseness that just embodies everything that slays, serves, and gives you life. The song begins with pulsating beats and shimmering synths that will instantly grab you. Lady Gaga’s effortlessly transitions between sultry verses and an exhilarating chorus is truly incredible. The chorus can be both overwhelming with “Feel the beat under your feet. /The floor's on fire,” yet irresistible to sing along to.
Since Charli xcx declared Brat Summer is over. I say that it is officially MAYHEM Summer!
GWCS RECOMMENDATION
“Be More Kind” – Frank Turner
Recommended by Mr. Parisi
Mr. Parisi recently saw Frank Turner at a really small club in Harrisonburg. He said it was so worth the two hour drive each way (and then school the next day). He also said, “Frank Turner is one musician that I would listen to if I was stuck on a desert island and only could listen to one musician.”
“Be More Kind” serves as a powerful reminder to be lived and a voice for change. The blend of folk-punk energy and thoughtful lyricism is a powerful reminder of the importance of kindness in today's world. “In a world that has decided. /That it's going to lose its mind. /Be more kind, my friends. /Try to be more kind.” Turner's distinctive voice and catchy melody and personal anecdotes resonate with listeners, encouraging them to engage with their surroundings and react positively to negativity.
I agree with Mr. Parisi when he said, “Frank Turner is one musician that I would listen to if I was stuck on a desert island and only could listen to one musician.”
NEW RECOMMENDATION
“Like Real People Do (feat. NATURE)” – Hozier
Coming out on May 16, 2025 “Like Real People Do (feat. NATURE)” is a soulful reinterpretation of the original track by Hozier, featuring a fresh dynamic that enhances its emotional depth while maintaining the intimacy that fans have come to love. The acoustic arrangement is organic, allowing Hozier's rich voice to take center stage. The lush instrumentation and NATURE's verses and vocal harmonies add a modern flair. The song explores themes of love, vulnerability, and the human condition, with Hozier weaving vivid imagery and evocative metaphors. The song creates a pristine atmosphere, highlighting the acoustic elements while allowing both artists to shine. The collaboration embodies the essence of connection, inviting listeners to reflect on their own experiences of love and relationship.
