Pivot with Parisi…

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt33188730/

I have been diggin’ “Pivot,” a podcast hosted by tech journalist Kara Swisher and NYU Business Professor Scott Galloway.  While nothing screams excitement more than the words “podcast” or “tech journalist” or “business professor,” they provide unfiltered (read: “sometimes, there is a little swearing”) stories about technology, business, and politics that draw you in, whether you want them to or not.  Galloway describes the show as, "Just like Game of Thrones but less entertaining."  Recent topics included: How and When to Use AI;  Bezos Backlash; Election Misinformation; and Hurricane Helene Aftermath.  Swisher has long covered the business of the Internet, writing about Google and censorship, Elon Musk, Instagram, and other tech and media topics.  Scott Galloway is a professor and teaches brand strategy and digital marketing at the NYU Stern School of Business.  Recent interviewees on the show were Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, and other leading tech people.  Check it out HERE

Every week in the WYNK a staff or faculty member shares something they are ‘diggin’! It may be a music artist, a museum, a hobby, a book, a tech tool, a current event, a recipe, a game, a fun fact… you name it - we dig it!

Friends, Music & Dancing…

Students, Teachers & Family

Thanks for the community invite, Faiz!

Faiz & Friends was such a great community event with family and friends laughing, singing, and dancing together to live music on The Perch's rooftop. The band, The Poprocks, played hits from the 90s to today that we all knew and could jive to. A Halloween Spooktacular was also taking place simultaneously for part of the evening with a moon bounce, games, prizes, and candy galore. Entry was free so I highly recommend this fun event in the future!

We encourage students to plan community events. Share your ideas with a teacher and see what happens!

Weekly Song Recommendations…

with Amelia

Hello, this is Amelia Schmutz! I am a junior at GWCS, and I write a section of the WYNK on song recommendations. I hope you enjoy. Feel free to talk to me at school or email me your top recommendations and favorite songs for a future WYNK.

MY
RECOMMENDATION

“Limp” – Fiona Apple

I have had the album “When The Pawn…” by Fiona Apple on repeat non-stop lately. Her raw emotions have been the most real thing I’ve heard in a while. Finally hearing something that’s not sugarcoated relates so much to me. “Limp” especially grabs you with a real struggle that so many people have to live with and internalized every day. The song follows a woman who is fed up with her lover constantly gaslighting her. Specifically coming from a man who wants a “damsel in distress” relationship so he can control her. “But no matter what I try, you'll beat me with your bitter lies. /So call me crazy, hold me down. /Make me cry, get off now, baby.” The angry, jazzy theme that will stick with you and empower you.

GWCS RECOMMENDATION

“Cut Deep” – Matt Maeson

Recommended by Mr. Connelly

“Cut Deep” expresses frustrations and disappointments Maeson felt working in the music industry. This is a feeling that people feel and relate to beyond being in the creative field. “Cut deep and I’m still alive, I talk my sh*t ’til the day I die,” he repeats throughout the song. “The reason I make music is I want my songs to help people feel justified in whatever they’re feeling, especially if they’re going through hard times,” Maeson told Consequence. “When I was seventeen, I started performing in prisons as part of my parents’ prison ministry, and I realized what music could do as far as helping people feel dignified and less alone.” The song is fills you with a modern, bluesy, indie-folk vibe that feels like a friend sitting with you after a long day and expressing their feelings.

NEW RECOMMENDATION

“I Love You, I’m Sorry – Live From Vevo” – Gracie Abrams

Gracie Abrams released a deluxe version of her album “The Secret of Us” on October 18, 2024. Right away, “I Love You, I’m Sorry – Live From Vevo” pulls at your heartstrings. Gracie Abrams sings about a narrator who wants to be real in a relationship but ends up pushing people away. In the bridge, “You were the best but you were the worst.”  Captures the highs and lows of love. The song feels like curling up in a warm bed on a cold day, possibly crying. The soft, indie theme will give you chills with relatability and sadness. If you like Taylor Swift, I highly recommend checking out Gracie Abrams.
