OUI GOBLEU COOKING CLUB…

COMFORT FOOD!

Monday, February 28, 2022
Lunch Time

As we see winter turn into rainy springtime what's one food that you always turn to for comfort? Meatloaf?  Mac and Cheese?  Gordon Ramsey's Crispy Confit Lamb Shoulder with Buttered Baby Spring Vegetables, Sunchoke Purée, Chips and Caper Salsa Verde?

Whatever it is, bring it next Monday for our monthly Oui Gobleu cooking club during lunch.  Any food that needs to be refrigerated can be placed in the student fridge, and anything else can be kept in Ms. Warden's office for safekeeping.  We have microwaves and a large toaster oven for anything that needs to be reheated.

Comfortingly,

Ms. Warden

Yes, you read that right! The Blackfriars Playhouse is opening! After years of COVID hiatus, GWCS students are invited to join Mr. Goldie and Ms. N-O on a road-trip down to Staunton, Virginia to take-in two Shakespeare plays, learn Shakespeare combat tricks, attend a graduate lecture, tour the theatre, eat at Staunton’s best restaurants, wander around the historic town, consume ice cream every night, and stop to romp around the Frontier Culture Museum on the way home.

Interested?

Ask Mr. Goldie to add your name to the list today. Details are still being ironed out and will be included in next week’s WYNK, but here are the basics:

OPTION: CO-OPS -or- OBX…

JUNIORS & SENIORS
April 15 - June 3, 2022

Roger Muntu at Voice of America in 2019 with GWCS student intern, Ciara O’Brien. Yes, the same Roger Muntu who used to teach at GWCS and still DJs GWCS dances! https://www.voanews.com/

Subject: Co-Op Internships Contacts!

Realistic Education and Authentic Learning Co-Ops is a hallmark of a GWCS education - this nine-week program (every Friday during the fourth quarter) allows GWCS high school juniors and seniors to actively participate in the world of work. Internships, job shadows, and volunteer positions are individually matched with our students according to their talents, interests, and skills.

Although we haven't been able to do them in recent years due to COVID, we are very excited to return to Co-Ops this spring for any Juniors and Seniors who would like to participate.  Because we know that some offices are still not back to being fully in-person and may not be willing to take on an intern, this year Juniors and Seniors who are not able to find an internship may participate in OBX for credit.  Unlike previous years, however, we are going to require students and their families to set up their internships individually but are happy to offer our community resources for possible contacts.

So - the ask:

If you have any professional contacts/companies/organizations who would be willing to have an intern every Friday from April 15th - June 3rd, please add them in the form linked below!    I will be polling the Juniors and Seniors shortly to see what their interests are, but my hope is that if we have enough input from our community, it will be easy to connect them with an appropriate organization.

Link to form:

LINK TO INFO SHEET ON BOTH CO-OPS & OBX:

Note: 4th Quarter Experiential Learning Fridays at GWCS are mandatory and students do earn credit. The option offered this year is for juniors and seniors to choose between OBX and Co-Ops.

Thank you in advance for your help and support!

Warmly,

Maria

We hope you will find them informative, with helpful suggestions, and interesting questions to discuss as a family.
