GWCS ONLINE EVENTS CALENDAR - UPDATED DAILY
Welcome to Second Semester…
Our Coyote Family Is Growing!
Let's give a thunderous Coyote Welcome to our newest students and their families! If you spot a fresh face in the hallways or during pick-up/drop-off, take a moment to introduce yourself with that signature Coyote warmth and spirit.
And let's celebrate a truly special addition—our youngest Coyote ever, baby Kaylee! She'll be joining GWCS alongside her proud mama, Ms. Kohler, and will make our brand-new nursery her cozy home away from home. Welcome to the pack, Kaylee!

Weekly Song Recommendations…
with Amelia
Hello, this is Amelia Schmutz! I am a junior at GWCS, and I write this section of the WYNK on song recommendations. I hope you enjoy. Feel free to talk to me at school or email me your top recommendations and favorite songs for a future WYNK.
MY
RECOMMENDATION
“Samurai Swords (Acoustic Version)” – Highasakite
“Samurai Swords (Acoustic Version)” is such a beautiful song. The original song is nothing like the acoustic version. The original is very hyperpop while the acoustic version has heart-wrenching vocals accompanied by gorgeous piano. “Samurai Swords (Acoustic Version)” sounds like a melancholic warning to the person she loves, or at the least who loves her, to stay away because she believes she is incapable of giving true, healthy love. “I'm not focused, I'm not stable. There's no patience, no salvation There's no heartache, I'm not loving. I'm not loving, I'm not loving.” She has deemed herself toxic, implied they should just do away with her, and move on with their lives and find someone else to love. This entire song haunts me with is beauty and vulnerability.
GWCS RECOMMENDATION
“Old Dominion” – Eddie from Ohio
Recommended by Naomi
Eddie From Ohio is a local band from Vienna, Virginia. They write fun folk music that can cheer you up if you are feeling down. “Old Dominion” was originally written as a replacement for the older, admittedly racist, Virginia state song. “But babe the Rocky Mountains are gradually eroding. The hills of coors are nothing more. Than blue ridge wannabes.” “Old Dominion” is the perfect mix of silly folk music bit while still making a statement.
NEW RECOMMENDATION
“Trouble” – Sharon Van Etten
“Trouble” was released on a single on January 15, 2025, along with the songs “Southern Life (What It Must Be Like)” and “Afterlife” that have an awesome alternative/indie sound. “Trouble” is about the challenges of loving someone who has different views and the pain of having to hide parts of yourself. The song explores the idea of choosing to prioritize the needs of someone you love over your own. “People say I'm a one-hit wonder. But what happens when I have two? I washed your dishes. But I sh*tted in your bathroom.” She spoke to Rolling Stone about her upcoming album “Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory” that will be released on February 7, 2025. She said, “…whatever you’re feeling and whoever you are and how you relate to people in that moment. If I can just keep a sense of openness while knowing that my feelings change every day, that is all I can do right now. That and try to be the best person I can be while letting other people be who they are and not taking it personally and just being.”
