GWCS BACK to SCHOOL NIGHT

Tuesday, sept 19 | 6:00 - 8:30 pm

All parents and guardians are encouraged to attend our Back-to-School Potluck! We are so excited to be starting off our year with an opportunity for Coyote parents to mingle with one another.  After dinner, we'll be getting to know the staff and doing some meet and greet activities!

Please note, students should not attend.

Parent Volunteers Needed!

From the desk of Alexa Warden, GWCS Director & Principal:

Hello Team!

Doesn’t it feel good to be a part of a team? Well, welcome to the Coyote PAC!

PAC stands for Parents Acting Collaboratively, and this year we are dedicated to bringing our Coyote PAC back to full capacity.

Our school theme this year is collaboration as evidenced by our team-taught classes, co-led advisories, and exciting seventh period opportunities. So we can’t wait to collaborate with you, our amazing parent contingent!

We have found that parents who volunteer with GWCS form friendships that last a lifetime, and who couldn’t use more of those? By volunteering you’ll enrich not only your student’s experience but our entire community!

Please complete the survey linked below to let us know what volunteer opportunities feel like the best fit for you. At the same time, if volunteering isn’t right for you at this moment, we get it! We will be polling parents every quarter to gauge interest and availability.

We can’t wait to see you at Back to School Night!

Warmly,

Alexa

FRIDAY, SEPT 22 : CAMP COYOTE

Calling all outdoorsy, adventurous Coyotes!

Actual Campsite at Burke Lake Park, Fairfax, VA

Join us on Friday, September 22nd for our annual overnight - Camp Coyote!  We will depart GWCS at 2:45 pm to head to Burke Lake Campground Small Group Sites #A15 + #A16 on Friday, with overnight pick up on Saturday morning at 8 am.

If you are interested in helping transport students to the campground, please email Ms. Warden.

And for any coyotes who prefer to sleep in a bed rather than a tent: there is a half-night option, with pickup at 10 pm on Friday evening.  Please make sure to note on the permission form whether your student will be attending for a full night or half night, along with any other allergies/dietary needs we should be aware of.  Permission slips should be turned in no later than Tuesday, Sept 19.

Interested in loaning gear or donating snacks/drinks?  Click here for the Camp Coyote Sign Up Genius.  Any donations or equipment can be stashed in Suite 120 (the staff kitchen area) – thank you for your support!

Are you or your student interested in taking the PSATs or SATs here at GWCS?

GWCS will be administering the PSATs & SATs on thursday, october 26th.

Which test should my student take? Look below for more information!

PSAT 8-9:

  • Results from the PSAT 8/9 allow you to evaluate each student's college and career readiness and determine which knowledge areas and skills need more work. Having these insights early in high school lets you intervene in time to get more of your students on track for success.

  • Expand access to your AP Program by identifying students who are ready for certain AP courses based on their performance on the PSAT 8/9.

PSAT/NMQST:

  • The PSAT/NMSQT takes 2 hours and 14 minutes and consists of 2 sections: (1) the Reading and Writing Section, and (2) the Math Section. Most of the questions are multiple choice, though some math questions ask you to write in the answer rather than select it.

  • If you've already taken the PSAT 8/9 or PSAT 10, you'll be able to track your improvement.

  • Access personalized recommendations about AP courses that are a good fit.

  • Students who take the PSAT/NMSQT and meet other program entry requirements specified in the PSAT/NMSQT Student Guide will enter the National Merit Scholarship Program, an academic competition for recognition and scholarships conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).

SAT School Days:

  • Students don't need to register for the SAT School Day through College Board. GWCS offers the SAT School Day.

  • Many students take the SAT for the first time in the spring of their junior year, and then again in the fall of their senior year to improve their score.
