Friendly Notice: Safe Drop-Off Tips

Dear Parents and Guardians,
With the new academic year fast approaching, we would like to take a moment to share some essential guidelines to ensure a safe and organized drop-off process in our parking lot.

  1. Make Sure to Park Fully In a Designated Spot for Pick-Up and Drop Off

  2. Don’t Block in Other Cars & the Flow of Traffic; Don’t Idle in the Driving Lane to Drop off Students!

  3. Be Mindful of Speed

  4. Give Way to Pedestrians

  5. Avoid Cell Phone Usage - both a distraction and a hindrance to other parents trying to pick up their students!

Watch the handy video above for some GWCS parking lot no-gos!

We trust that these suggestions will enhance the drop-off experience for both you and your child. Together, we can create an organized, efficient, and safe parking lot, reflecting our commitment to providing a nurturing environment for our students.
We appreciate your continued support and cooperation in upholding these guidelines. We look forward to beginning another successful academic year with you and your amazing children!

Warm regards,
GWCS Staff

High School Headphone Policy

Using Headphones:

  • Please refrain from using headphones during class to encourage participation and collaboration.

  • You can use headphones during breaks, or for breakout work, but keep the volume reasonable and be aware of your surroundings.

  • No headphones in hallways and during school events.

Try Earplugs!

  • Instead of headphones, try using earplugs to reduce noise while staying engaged.

  • We highly suggest Loop Experience EarPlugs - Amazon Link Here!

Consideration for Others:

  • Be respectful of classmates' need to learn and concentrate.

Guidance and Monitoring:

  • Teachers and staff will remind you about these guidelines.

  • Misuse may lead to temporary headphone confiscation.

Let's create a focused and inclusive learning environment at GWCS!

Forms Due by Next Week!

EMERGENCY FORM: Please complete and return the 2023-2024 Emergency Form to the basket on the front desk by Wednesday, August 30th. It is very important that we have this completed form without delay. We recommend downloading and completing this MS Word version of the Emergency Form so that you can save it to your computer and make and submit changes as needed during the school year.

  1. HEALTH FORM: All students are required to have on record a Virginia School Entrance Health Form (or similar immunization record). (You can check student’s CoyoteWeb account to see whether or not we have their immunization on file.)

  2. MAT MEDICATION FORM: If it is necessary for a student to take medication prescribed by a physician during school hours or during a school-sponsored trip, please have your physician complete the MAT Physicians Medication Consent form (one for each prescription) and provide GWCS medications in the original prescription container. Medications will be administered during the school day by Mr. Mallonee.

  3. PARENT-STUDENT HANDBOOK: It is important that parents and students take the time to read each and every page of the 2023-2024 Parent-Student Handbook, and complete the GWCS Parent-Student Agreement Form. This needs to be printed, signed and returned to the basket on the front desk by Wednesday, August 30th.

  4. COMMUNITY SERVICE: All GWCS students are expected to complete a minimum of 30 hours of community service each school year. There are many opportunities to earn community service hours through school-sponsored activities. However, students may also complete their hours at any institution, facility, or program that is approved by Ms. Warden.
