TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK...

May 1-5, 2017 is Teacher Appreciation Week and, at GW Community School, we do it big!

Table for 38, please

On Tuesday, May 2nd we (GWCS parents) are inviting our GWCS Faculty families to "dine in" by providing dinner for them to take home. Parents sign up to end in their our best home-cooked dishes and the faculty packages up what they need for their family for dinner that evening. The GWCS faculty reports this as one of their favorite ways to be appreciated -- so bring it on!

CLICK HERE (ASAP) to read the details and contribute, if you choose.

Refer to your email (4/27/17) for the other 'teacher appreciation' plans that are not revealed in this school newsletter!

Thank You!

BE A BETA TESTER...

attendance form

  • GWCS has been experimenting with a few new online forms (thanks to the kindness and expertise of Peter Suskind) and we are ready for GWCS parents to beta test this attendance form.  Whether your child wakes up not feeling well or you have an appointment planned well in advance -- with the help of this form you can inform GWCS with just a few clicks.

Bookmark

  • The tricky part is keeping track of the link to the attendance form.  We recommend that you click on the link now and bookmark it.  Fort the current beta testing time, the attendanced form is also linked on the red announcement bar across the top of the GWCS website.

beta test

  • Feel free to start using it today.  Take it for a test run (indicate in the 'reason' field that it is a test.)  You can also comment in the 'reason' field whether or not you think you would take advantage of this attendance form and feel free to make recommendations.  GWCS also needs to decide if it works on our end.  Regardless, you can always call Ms. Mauney at 703.978.7208 or send her an email at  mauneyla@gwcommunityschool.com about attendance.

First Aid, AED & CPR Certification...

Who knew learning to save lives could be so much fun!

GWCS eighth graders, freshmen and sophomores participated in First Aid, CPR and AED training on Friday, April 21st as our kick-off OBX event (Out of the Box Education) for 2017!  All participants will receive their CPR certification card in a week or two.  Thanks to our fantabulous trainer, Brian, from Respond and Rescue!  Like them on --> Respond and Rescue Facebook Page

Graduation planning is in full swing!

TEMPLE TOUR:  Graduation Committee Chairs for Food, Beverages, Decorations, Balloons, Flowers, Ushers, and Memory Boards toured the Masonic temple on Saturday, April 22nd, and are busy planning a great day.

MEMORY BOARD MAKING PARTY:  Four GWCS seniors got a jump-start on their memory boards at Tuesday night's party.  They met with stacks of photos and had a great time sharing their stories while brainstorming creative ways to display them.  The next and final party will be on Thursday, May 31st beginning at 2:40 pm.  Start collecting your photos and 2-D memorabilia!

WHO MAKES THE MEMORY BOARD?  In the past - some families have turned the Memory Board making into a family project; some seniors create their own memory board and; some parents make the memory board a surprise for their senior.  It's your call - have the conversation now so you are not frantically making a Memory Board right before graduation!  (info)

The student of the week is DELIA O'GRADY for demonstrating the GWCS value of RESPONSIBILITY.

Delia is always happy to step up and help out when a task absolutely has to get done, and she does it while maintaining her own obligations as well. Even when she suffered a concussion, Delia maintained a can-do attitude and persevered. Her sense of responsibility extends from herself to our community and truly enriches it.

Check out the 'Student of the Week' bulletin board near Mr. Pereira's classroom. Each week a student is recognized for his or her demonstration of one of the eight GWCS Values.

GWCS VALUES: LEARNING, SERVICE, KINDNESS, EXCELLENCE, RESPONSIBILITY, INVESTMENT, TEAM PLAY, INTELLECTUAL CURIOSITY

The Memory Board tradition at GWCS is a wonderful way to highlight the achievements and good times of graduating seniors on their special day. The boards are displayed in a dedicated Memory Board room at the Masonic Temple during the GWCS graduation and reception, and gives others a chance to know the graduates and what has been important in their lives.  Memory Boards are a tradition at GWCS and truly make the graduation day special for everyone.

      Dear Parents:

It’s been so good to get together with you at the last few parent coffees. As those in attendance know, we talked a lot about parenting concerns. Following up on that, please check out this blog post that really hit home for me.

      Hope you enjoy!

Dr. Cox's has an annual tradition of taking her Honors Astrophysics students on a weekend trip to the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO).  Following is her account of the 2017 trip that took place the weekend of March 31st:

Last weekend the Astrophysics class took our field trip to Green Bank, WV to the Green Bank Observatory, home of the largest fully steerable telescope in the world.    The Green Bank Telescope (known as the GBT) is used by astronomers worldwide to study astronomical objects that emit radio and microwave radiation.  It is particularly well suited to the study of pulsars, which are rapidly rotating stellar remnants with strong magnetic fields.   We toured the observatory and got an up-close view of this giant telescope, which is about as tall as the Washington Monument, and has a collecting area about 330 feet across.

A much smaller telescope, only 40 feet across, is available for student use.  We used this telescope to map a region of the sky that includes the constellations of Orion and Taurus.  Our radio map shows bright radio emission from the star forming region in Orion's Belt, and the supernova remnant in Taurus known as the Crab Nebula.  The Crab is host to a young, rapidly rotating pulsar, although the radio light we see in our map is mostly due to the hot ionized gas leftover from the supernova explosion rather than the pulsar.

We observed Friday night, reduced our data on Saturday morning, made a contour map on Saturday afternoon after taking the observatory tour, and came home on Sunday.  Evenings were spent playing chess, air hockey and pool in the observatory residence hall.

Thanks to Marcelle Miles and Sharon Saile for transportation and chaperone services!

      CORRIN FOR THE WIN...

2017 GWCS SUPER SMASH BROS. TOURNAMENT

On Tuesday, April 4th,  the GWCS SGA honored the lost-but-not-forgotten GWCS Smash Bros. Tournament tradition. GWCS had not sponsored a Smash Bros. Tournament in three years. The last champion (two years in a row) was former student Bobby Sunderland, back in 2014.   Students fought as their favorite Nintendo characters trying to win it all.

      smash3BLUE.jpg

Students battled as their favorite Nintendo characters trying to win it all.  The competition was fierce and came down to the final minutes. There were many twists and turns as the stage ruined the chances of many promising contenders.  Congratulations to Danny S. (Corrin) who won by defeating Josh C. (Marth) in the final round. Danny K. (Captain Falcon) took third place by beating Christian (Kirby) in a close third place round. Everyone had a good time and can't wait till the next tournament, and with Danny S. graduating the championship will be up for grabs.

-Josh Clark, SGA Rep (also graduating)

The student of the week is NICK O'NEAL for demonstrating the GWCS value of INTELLECTUAL CURIOSITY.

Nick’s is a conscientious student who pursues every assignment with gusto!  Nick is always prepared for class, he often comes to class with more work prepared than was assigned.  In Nick’s review of Jared Diamond’s book Collapse, he not only analyzed the complex issues presented by Diamond, he also synthesized counter-arguments of his own!  Nick is never completing his assignments just so he can get them done, Nick is completing his assignments to see how much more he can learn!

Check out the 'Student of the Week' bulletin board near Mr. Pereira's classroom. Each week a student is recognized for his or her demonstration of one of the eight GWCS Values.

      ABOUT THE FILM

Are you watching kids scroll through life, with their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that with her own kids and learned that the average kid spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. She wondered about the impact of all this time and about the friction occurring in homes and schools around negotiating screen time—friction she knew all too well.

In SCREENAGERS, as with her award-winning documentaries on mental health, Delaney takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance.

THE LEAGUE OF INCOMPETENT GENTLEMEN BELIED THEIR NAME...

      Coyote Robotics

Last weekend, GWCS Coyote Robotics FTC Team 965 “League of Incompetent Gentlemen” belied their name by making a strong, competent showing at the FTC Eastern Super Regional Championship Tournament at the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania. There they faced off against 71 of the best teams from West Virginia and Ohio through Vermont and New Hampshire.

Their Logo brags of a 95% Competence in Autonomous, and in fact during their nine qualifying matches, when they were designated to claim the two beacons in Autonomous Mode, they were 100% successful, claiming twelve out of twelve! They also demonstrated a strong defensive autonomous program and a unique defensive Tele-Op strategy that involved rotating the goal to cause their opponent’s shots to miss! Their alliance won 5 out of 9 qualifying matches to finish ranked 15 out of the 36 teams in their division.

Unfortunately, they were not chosen to join an alliance for the elimination rounds (a decision some teams who lost now probably regret.) It is unlikely therefore that they will receive an invitation to the World Championship, but there is still a slim chance.

The Gentlemen, with sometimes-mustachioed lady Kelley as Captain and her teammates Preston, Michael, Nick and Christian, all had a great time and captured a vision of the possibilities to motivate them to further excellence in coming seasons. Thanks also to coaches Rob Carlisle, Doug Fuller and Isaac Weeks for helping them get there and succeed. They made all of us proud!

      CAPS & GOWNS...

      GWCS SENIOR WEBPAGE

On Monday, March 20th, thanks to Cheryl Massey (PAC Graduation Chair) and her trusty helper Julia O'Grady, the hanging rack full of silky royal blue graduation gowns suddenly appeared at GWCS.  All afternoon, gasps were heard around school as seniors saw the gowns and realized, this is really happening!  Some squealed with excitement, others moaned with uncertainty and sadness.  Regardless of the emotion - the reactions were spontaneous, audible and genuine.  On Thursday, March 23rd, Debbie & Doug Fuller (PAC Graduation Volunteers) spent time with each senior taking measurements for caps and gowns and confirmed - yes, this is really happening.

HONEY TASTING IS THE BEE'S KNEES...

Ms. Newton hosted her honey tasting for the lucky GWCS PAC Auction winners this past weekend.  She mixed in some teaching with the tasting, so the group learned about bee keeping, honey extraction techniques and hive culture. Who knew bees are transported non-stop by truck from the middle of the United States to California to pollinate the almond orchards?!  Everyone received the Honey Connoisseur Color Guide and the Aroma & Tasting Wheel to try their hands...er, taste buds... at identification.  Ms. Newton paired snacks with various honey samples from her own bee hives, along with a tasting of mead, or 'honey wine,' brewed by Ms. Newton herself in an old whiskey barrel.  It was an amazing event and definitely a (bee) keeper for next year's auction!

      AUCTION ITEM #705

Honey Tasting Experience with Ms. Newton

      Sunday, March 19th
      4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
      GW Community School cafe

On Sunday, our wonderful science teacher and apiarist, Ms. Amanda Rose Newton, will lead a culinary experience in Honey. Did you 'Buy-a-Spot' for this event on the PAC online auction?  If not, but you are interested - there might be a spot left for you.  Participants will enjoy tasting food pairings with various honey collected from Ms. Newton's own bees. Buckwheat, clover, sage, poplar, and wildflower... for example.  Participants will learn how honey can enhance flavor in cooking, while gaining an education on bee keeping, our natural environment, and even some health benefits.  Participants will also receive a honey bear to take home to extend their experience.

At the time the newsletter was published, there were 11 spots purchased and 4 spots still available for purchase for $50/each for Ms. Newton's Honey Tasting Experience.  If interested, contact Deiadre Rauch at 571-422-8935 before 5:00 pm Saturday, March 18th.

PLEASE, No drop-ins.  Only attend if you purchased a spot in advance.

      SPRING AND OF COURSE, SOFTBALL!

Last season was the GWCS inaugural softball season, and a successful season on all levels. Students who never played softball before were integral players on our team. We truly had fun, won some games, enjoyed some ice cream and pizza post-game, and most importantly, built relationships and memories with our peers.

Monday, March 20th we will meet in the gym for our first practice. All are welcome and will have a week to decide if they want to join softball for the season.

Practices: M-F 7:55 am - 8:40 am: Any inclement weather including temps below 40 we will practice in the gym otherwise we will be out on the soccer field. Come on spring!

What to Bring: Glove and good attitude

Season: Mr. Goldie is scheduling between 7-12 games for us this season, hopefully with a few home games (inside Fairfax County).

Coach Shumard and I are really looking forward to our second season and coaching a great group of kids. Let us have some fun, learn some new skills, and become a team. See you Monday.

WHAT WILL OUR JUNIORS & SENIORS BE DOING ON FRIDAYS, 4TH QUARTER?

      What’s a Co-Op?

Each spring, GWCS high school juniors and seniors take part in an experiential learning program that introduces them to possible career paths, fosters academic interests, and offers meaningful, first-hand work-based experiences.

Every Friday from April 21-June 9 our students will go to their “jobs” rather than school.

Co-Ops provide meaningful, hands-on learning encounters for our students, enabling them to gain real-world experiences.  Our students gain exposure to a professional atmosphere and through their experiences get a sense of a specific field of interest BEFORE heading off to college.

Our goal for our students is for them to have a positive experience, learn something about themselves, and attain problem solving skills.  It’s not so much about figuring out what they are going to do for the rest of their life, it’s more about getting a taste of the real world, uncover their strengths (and weaknesses) and know that their contributions are valuable.

Spring 2017 - Where will our students go?

Here are a few of our confirmed hosts for this spring’s program:

      • River Bend Nature Center
      • Children’s Science Center
      • Udvar Hazy Center, Smithsonian National Museum of Air and Space
      • Mix Masters Pro Studios
      • George Mason University Robotics
      • George Mason University Observatory
      • Sunrise Senior Center
      • Congresswoman Barbara Comstock, District Office
      • Columbia Elementary School, PE Instruction
      • Vienna Elementary School, 3rd Grade Instruction
      • George Mason Elementary School, ESL Instruction
      • Hidden Pond Nature Center
      • Whitehall Organic Farm

      How You Can Help:

We are still looking for a few opportunities for our students. If you or someone you know may be able to sponsor one of our students, we are currently looking for Co-Ops in the following areas:

      • Film
      • Journalism
      • Spa Services
      • Nursing
      • Computer and administrative work
      • Law Enforcement

      CONTACT:

Reach out to our Co-Op Coordinator, Kristen Stombres, at stombreskl@gwcommunityschool.com with your lead.

The student of the week is CHRISTIAN BOWMAN for demonstrating the GWCS value of INTELLECTUAL CURIOSITY.

Christian has been a pleasure to have in class since he joined GWCS back in February.  He is always ready for class, he is always eager to learn, and he loves when he is given any assignment described as ‘a challenge.’  Christian pursues answers beyond the classroom, works on geometry proofs that were not assigned, and completes every assignment with pride and pleasure.  Christian never has to worry about where the bar is being set—he is planning to exceed that level anyway!   ~Mr. Goldie

Check out the 'Student of the Week' bulletin board near Mr. Pereira's classroom. Each week a student is recognized for his or her demonstration of one of the eight GWCS Values.

The student of the week is JOSH CLARK for demonstrating the GWCS value of  LEARNING.

Ms. Newton writes: "Josh has been doing consistently well in Anatomy & Physiology throughout the year but this past unit he has just been on fire! Between turning in detailed (to scale) drawings of bones, taking his coloring exercises to the next level (they are put on the refrigerator at home worthy). Watching him in action during dissections is also something! It’s like watching a meticulous surgeon getting down to business. I am thoroughly impressed with Josh’s sense of humor, dedication, and enthusiasm for this subject."

Check out the 'Student of the Week' bulletin board near Mr. Pereira's classroom. Each week a student is recognized for his or her demonstration of one of the eight GWCS Values.

SPRINGFIELD:  In an upset victory, 'Make Prom Great Again' has won as this year's prom theme!  Even though 'Under the Sea' won the Popular Vote, 'Make Prom Great Again' won the electoral college in a landslide.  The landslide was huge.  Really the best, the biggest landslide.  And this is going to be the greatest, hugest prom ever!

Rioting has reportedly begun, as local Joey Kelley has flipped a chair on accident.

Prom will be held on May 20th at Patriot Hall in Vienna.

      Corruptly,

The student of the week is LIZZIE WEBER for demonstrating the GWCS value of  EXCELLENCE.

Usually, when you say the words, “Freshman point guard,” you are explaining to somebody why you failed.  In this case, you would be explaining to somebody why you succeeded!  Lizzie Weber is the GWCS student of the week for demonstrating the GWCS value of Excellence.  The girls basketball team had a great season because they have played well as a team, but no position on the court is more closely connected to success than the point guard.  Lizzie has the ball in her control a large percentage of the time.  Even when the other team’s point guard has the ball, the ball is in Lizzie’s control.  She puts in long hours of practice, works hard on her skills, and leads by example in every game.  When you use the words ‘Lizzie Weber,’ and the words, ‘Freshman point guard’ you inevitably end-up using the word, ‘winner!’

Now is a good time to go over how to be sick in a public place - such as school!  Don't assume your child remembers the tips and tricks you taught them as a toddler.  A refresher course with your teenager is definitely worth the time - for his/her health and ours!  With our cozy environment at GWCS germs are bound to spread.  We are doing our best to sanitize and encourage healthy habits.  Your active support from home is appreciated!

The students of the week are the SUPER SMASH BROS. CREW for demonstrating the GWCS value of TEAM PLAY.

Super Smash Bros. is one of GWCSs venerable traditions, reaching all the way back to 2004 and the original Nintendo 64 version of the game, but for some reason, until recently nobody was playing it this year. Over the past few weeks, every day during lunch, there has been a rowdy but respectful group of video gamers forging friendships in the fires of friendly competition. They are always willing to give up an available controller to anyone who asks and graciously welcome newcomers. When it's time to return to class, they fold up the stadium seating, put the controllers away, turn the game off, and fall right back into their lives as students.

      BELATED THANKS...

      Dear Parents:

It’s been a whirlwind of a new year and too much time has passed since we’ve thanked you! As you know, GW Community School was founded on the unique perspectives of parents, students and teachers striving toward a unity of purpose. It’s so refreshing to see that eighteen years later the spirit is so alive. We had a great turnout for our last PAC Parent meeting! And our PAC committee chairs were so happy to have parents volunteer for graduation committees and donate auction items. The theme of the night seemed to be “It takes a village” and our small village is on its way to achieving some really big goals. At GWCS, graduation is a year-end celebration of how far we have all come and a beautiful and touching send off for our graduating seniors. Again, all are encouraged to attend (and help). You definitely won’t regret it.

      Mid-Term Brain Breakfast

      Mid-Term Brain Breakfast

Midterm exams are typically a stressful time for high schoolers. But not at GWCS! Thanks so much to our PAC for funding three delicious and nutritious days of breakfasts and snacks that were well-enjoyed by students and staff alike. Thanks also to our wonderful parent volunteers who shopped for and laid out our beautiful spread. Teachers were treated the first day of midterms to their favorite hot or iced drink from Peet’s! So a big Thank You to the Faculty Appreciation committee for that special treat. Happy teachers; happy school! And those words couldn’t have been truer last week.

And a huge thank you to the Facilities Committee who come in like little elves and leave no footprints, but total transformation. Check out our new paint job, Dr. G’s much needed new whiteboard, and Ms. Newton’s new class set up!

Coffee Talk at Peet's, Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017

Coffee Talk at Peet's, Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017

At GWCS connections are made that last a lifetime. Take advantage of it! Feeling out of the loop? Longing to spend some quality time with some quality people? Have a passion that may not be totally realized in your daily 9-5? Reach out and connect with your PAC! There is truly something for everyone, and we will all benefit from your contributions.

Thank you again for all that you do to make our school the haven that it is.

      Best,

      Alexa

      STUDENT OF THE WEEK...

The Student of the Week this week is CATE HARTNETT for demonstrating the GWCS value of INVESTMENT.

With only a couple of weeks under her belt as an enrolled student at GWCS, Cate took it upon herself to organize ‘senior night’ for the players on the boys and girls varsity basketball teams.  Seniors and their parents were honored (with flowers and cakes and other gifts in-the-making) in front of the last home audience of the season.  It was clear (from the debris and the icing-blue smiles) that another GWCS tradition was born.  See you at Senior Night 2018!  Thanks Cate!

Check out the 'Student of the Week' bulletin board near Mr. Pereira's classroom. Each week a student is recognized for his or her demonstration of one of the eight GWCS Values.

      MIDTERM MORNING BRAIN FOOD...

Thank you to all the PAC Volunteers who organized and contributed to the midterm breakfast buffet!  All three mornings, the breakfast table was full of bagels, muffins, hard boiled eggs, fruit, yogurt, granola bars, nuts, milk and juice.  After an energizing workout at the gym, students arrived at school and swarmed the breakfast table as though they hadn't eaten all week.  By 9:30 am they were settled into their first midterm of the day - brains and bodies stimulated, alert and satisfied.

      THINGS TO REMEMBER...

      MIDTERM EXAMS

ATTENDANCE:  All core classes have midterms (Math, Science, History, English, Foreign Language).   If student has an elective or study hall and no midterm, they are not required to be at school but parent must inform Ms. Mauney at least one day in advance.  Not sure of your child’s schedule – refer to CoyoteWeb.

PICK-UP & DROP-OFF:  To avoid interruptions, any student arriving for the second half of the day should arrive during lunch.  Any student leaving early should leave during lunch.  Lunch is from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm Wed. & Thu.

BREAKFAST:  PAC is organizing breakfast snacks for students and staff to be eaten during advisory after the gym.  Feel free to bring something from home as well.

QUIET ROOM:  A Quiet Room is assigned each period for students at school who do not have an exam but are at school.  Students will not be allowed to hang out on the sofas in the café even if they promise to be quiet!  All students will be in an exam room or the quiet room for the entire period.

BRING:  All students should bring a book or magazines to read.  If students complete the exam early, they will be asked to sit quietly and read until the class is done.  No electronic devices.  Students who do not have an exam but are at school will be asked to stay in the assigned quiet room and read silently.

BASKETBALL PRACTICE will begin at 8:00 am on midterm days (Wed., Thu. & Fri.) instead of 7:30 am.

7th PERIOD ELECTIVES are canceled on midterm days (Wed., Thu. & Fri.)

EARLY DISMISSALS:  Please note that school is closing at 2:30 pm on Wednesday and Thursday and at 11:30 am on Friday.  Make necessary transportation arrangements and/or coordinate your alternative pick-up location.

Term Spring Co-Op.  Kristen Stombres, our Co-Op coordinator, highlighted the flexibility of the program and the individualized experiences our students can have, explained the process and timeline of the program and fielded questions.  Several returning parents shared their child's experience from last year, including Kebby Kelley, who raved about her son, Joe's, work at the Children's Science Center.  Julie Corrigan remarked that her son, Alex, loved working with Mrs. Stombres and was really excited about his prospects this year.

We wrapped up this portion of the evening with a plea for contacts who might sponsor Co-Ops this year in the fields of Cyber Security, Nursing and Journalism.

Please reach out to Kristen with any questions you may have about the REAL Term Spring Co-Op or any potential leads in the areas listed above at stombreskl@gwcommunityschool.com

      OBX

      Every Friday during 4th Quarter
      April 21 - June 9, 2017
      All GWCS Freshmen & Sophomores

We then turned the conversation to our OBX (Outside the Box) events for freshmen and sophomores.  After hearing about several teachers' favorite trips and how experiential learning translates back to the classroom, we segued into the importance of the online auction, which funds the OBX experience.

      AUCTION

      February 21 - March 3, 2017

Deiadre Rauch, our PAC Fundraising Chair, stressed the need for 100% participation in the auction to not only fund the OBX experience, but teacher development, technology, trips and traditions.  To contact Deiadre with questions about or contributions to the auction, email her at PAC-Fundraising@gwcommunityschool.com

      GRADUATION

      Saturday, July 17, 2017
      George Washington Masonic National Memorial
      1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Graduation was the next item on the agenda and several parents spoke about how moving and special it is.  Parents also shared about the fun they had volunteering before, and the day of, and the wonderful friends they made in the process.  Cheryl Massey, our PAC Graduation Chair, received rave reviews from last year's volunteers for her organization, communication skills and grace.  All GWCS underclassmen parents and students are highly encouraged to volunteer and attend graduation.  To reach out to Cheryl, email her at PAC-Graduation@gwcommunityschool.com

Overall, it was a fun and festive evening!  The reoccuring theme of the night was "It Takes a Village."

Perhaps that's why we made "Community" our middle name.

      GWCS Director

      LOOKING AT NEXT WEEK: January 23 - 29, 2017

      MUST READ LINKS:

      STUDENT OF THE WEEK...

The Student of the Week is NICK O'NEAL for demonstrating the GWCS value of KINDNESS

When was the last time you saw Nick O’Neal when he wasn’t looking out for the best interest of everybody in the room?  Never.  Nick is omnipresent when it comes to the concerns of others.  He can be seen giving-up his turn, his chair, his Pringles and anything else available to make someone else’s daily experience better.  I have even seen him offer some of his grade points to classmates who did not do well on an assignment.  Nick will give you empathy instead of apathy every time!
