STUDENT OF THE WEEK...

The student of the week is XAVIER MILES for representing the GWCS value of LEARNING.

Xavier's enthusiasm for learning and his desire to know more are evident in all of his classes. He works hard and takes suggestions for improvement to heart. In Mr. P's English class recently, he even substituted and taught a fantastic lesson. He was prepared, poised, and thoughtful in leading discussion.

Check out the 'Student of the Week' bulletin board near Mr. Pereira's classroom. Each week a student is recognized for his or her demonstration of one of the eight GWCS Values.

GWCS Values: Learning, Service, Kindness, Excellence, Responsibility, Investment, Team Play, Intellectual Curiosity

HERE'S WHAT...

I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to our entire community for an enormously successful midterm experience. Thank you to the PAC for providing healthy breakfasts for the students and our teacher appreciation brunch. Thank you to the teachers who helped create a positive and productive exam experience. AND, thank you to our wonderful students who worked so hard.

I was especially impressed with the success of the "no-electronics" policy once exams were finished. It was so wonderful and so strange to visit classrooms full of students reading books and coloring with pens and pencils. Students, I'm interested to get your take on this experience. Please stop by and see me or drop me a line to let me know how it went for you. Could there be a Wireless Wednesday in our future? Stay tuned.

Best,

Ms. W.

PAC PAW PRINTS...

Coyote PAC is a GWCS program designed to more formally incorporate the wealth of parental resources and talents that are so obviously abundant in our community.   PAC Paw Prints is a section of the weekly newsletter where you can catch-up on all PAC related news and events.

PAC #1 - SOCKS AND SANDWICHES:

The Community Service Committee and the SGA invite you to participate in a Socks and Sandwiches project.  Please note due to the snow we have moved the date to February 16th.

  • SANDWICHES

Parents, please join us for the PB&J sandwiches making event for McKenna's Wagon.
DATE:     Tuesday February 16th (date change)
WHO:      GWCS Parents
TIME:      8:30 am - 10:30 am
WHERE:  GWCS cafe
RSVP:       Email: Julia O'Grady

Our goal will be to make 400 sandwiches. Your PAC will donate the fixin’s, so all you have to provide is the labor (of love).  The sandwiches you make will be distributed on McKenna’s Wagon, a volunteer-run, mobile food service that provides hot, nutritious evening meals, sandwiches, fruit, and snacks to 150 - 250 homeless men and women at three locations across the city every night.   Please email Julia O'Grady jogkog@msn.com if you are able to join us.

  • SOCKS

Meanwhile, the SGA has extended collecting socks for the shelter from now until February 16th.   Everyone is encouraged to bring in at least one pair of socks. Our goal is to collect at least 300 pairs of socks by February 16th enabling us to keep 3,000 toes warm this winter!  We can easily accomplish this goal, so keep donating Coyotes!

This is the last call for donations before our PAC Online Auction starts on Wednesday, February 17th!! Bidding begins at 6:30 am on Wednesday!  There are SO MANY amazing items for auction, check them out at:

The Fundraising Committee needs to collect ALL donations, including any contributions for the Auction Baskets by this Monday, February 15th at 5:00 pm. in order to get items photographed and put onto the auction site.

So, if you have items for the Auction Baskets, please drop them off to Ms. Mauney or place in the large grey bins by Mr. Pereira's classroom. Wine and Spirits must be handed to Ms. Mauney by an adult, or placed under her desk by an adult. Please, do not hand any alcoholic drinks to students to bring into the building. There are still slots available for items needed for the baskets. Please take a look and consider placing an item on your weekend errands list.

Thank you for your generosity and we look forward to seeing your bids starting on Wednesday!

PAC #3 - THANK YOU FOR THE MUNCHIES!

  • FACULTY BRUNCH:

The Midyear Munchies faculty appreciation brunch on Wednesday, February 10th, was a huge and welcome success. In the midst of midterms, the Coyote staff were treated to a bountiful buffet of delicious treats.  A big thank you to all the families who contributed a dish for the event and to Kelly Henderson Hagen and her volunteers for organizing, setting up and breaking down the brunch.

  • STUDENT BREAKFASTS:

The Midterm breakfast snacks for students that were provided on each midterm exam day (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) were voraciously consumed and appreciated.  Starting the day at the gym woke their brains up and got their blood pumping and then they arrived at school to a buffet of healthy grab-n-go breakfast snacks such as bagels and cream-cheese; bananas and apples; string cheese; hard boiled and deviled eggs; granola bars, muffins and coffee cake; juice and milk.  Thank you to all the parents who contributed snacks and to Linda Campbell and her volunteers for orchestrating and setting up each morning.
