New York City 2006
New York , New York . Everyone wants to be a part of it. And in the Fall of 2007, GW students got their chance. We took a bite out of the Big Apple with walking tours of Midtown Manhattan, took a ferry ride to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, caught a Broadway show and shopped for knockoff handbags in Chinatown . But the best part of the trip was the luxurious accommodations and the organized and knowledgeable tour guides.
Costa Rica 2006
In Summer of 2006, GW returned to Costa Rica for a repeat engagement. We ziplined through the Cloud Forest, learned about the deadly Assassin Bug at a butterfly garden in Monteverde, and ate gigantic nachos in the surfing hot-spot of Tamarindo. Costa Ricans have a saying “Pura Vida,” which translates roughly as “It's all good.” On this trip, we definitely got to understand the meaning of Pura Vida. Two teachers, a parent, and 20 awesome kids participated in this experience of a lifetime.
London 2005
London is one of the great world capitals: a bustling center of trade, tourism, and theater. It was the theater that drew our school to London in the fall of 2005, for a Curtain Time in London tour. Over the course of a week, we went to the theater twice (once to see the blockbuster “The Producers”), and got acting lessons at the Globe Theater. We also saw the sights in London, including St. Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, and the London Eye.
Grand Canyon 2004
Not every trip GW takes is overseas. America is a large enough place to offer great opportunities for education and adventure. In the fall of 2004 the school headed West to gaze upon the beauty of the Grand Canyon, hike next to the hudoos of Bryce Canyon, raft down the Colorado River. And if anyone got tired of the natural beauty, we also had time to live it up in the man-made opulence of Las Vegas.
Spain 2002
This trip is legendary in the annals of GW overseas travel. It was both the longest, and most in-depth trip the school has ever taken. In the summer of 2002, we embarked on a trip to Spain. Over the course of our month-long visit, students took classes at the local campus of La Universidad de Espana in Salamanca, visited Morocco and Portugal, experienced the gorgeous architecture of the Alhambra and caught concerts by Manu Chao, Suzanne Vega, and Van Morrison.
