RELIEF PRINTMAKING:  In this week-long workshop, students will be introduced to the art of Relief Printmaking.  They will develop an understanding of the IMG_1835printmaking medium and the materials and equipment used.  Students will learn how to transfer a drawing onto a linoleum block, carve it out and then hand print the image onto paper.  Participants are encouraged to bring drawings or copies of images they would like to use as inspiration for their prints.IMG_0037

At the end of this course students can expect to walk away with an edition of at least five prints made from their linocut.  If time allows, students can carve additional linoleum blocks and print those as well.  This is a great way for IMG_0023high school students interested in art to learn about printmaking and build their portfolio over the summer.

BOOKMAKING:  In this week-long workshop, students will learn to make their own unique books.  Participants will learn how to make basic bookmaking structures such IMG_0022as, accordion and pamphlet books.  They will be exposed to and encouraged to experiment with basic printmaking and transfer processes as well as to incorporate painting, sewing and collage into their books.

At the end of this course students can expect to walk away with a finished accordion book and a pamphlet book.  If time allows, students can also make additional monotype prints with the techniques learned.  This is a great way for high school IMG_0050students interested in art to learn about bookmaking and build their portfolio over the summer.
