SGA in Full Swing... Camping, Geocaching and More

Although school started only a little more than a month ago, the GWCS SGA has been busy. In September, the SGA and members of the GWCS freshman and sophomore classes went on an overnight camping trip at Burke Lake. Campers played flashlight tag, roasted marshmallows and hotdogs, and went geocaching, a game where you use a GPS to find treasure planted by other geocachers. GWCS campers found treasure in the form of a small plastic slinky with a world map on it and hid their own—coyote silly bands—for others to discover. “It was really nice that the SGA and underclassmen got to know each other,” said Andie Arnold, SGA president.
In October, the SGA participated in the Life After 8th Grade High School Fair at The Langley School in McLean, Va., where officers and Ms. Warden
staffed the GWCS booth. The next evening, SGA officers helped GWCS faculty and staff host parents at back-to-school night. The officers welcomed the parents and made sure they made it to their students’ classes at the right times. Also in October, the SGA put on an afterschool video game marathon. The popular marathon happens again on November 9.
Upcoming SGA activities include pumpkin carving on October 28; Halloween festivities on October 29; and Spirit Week from November 15-19, culminating in the homecoming game and dance on November 19. More fun to follow!
