GWCS Jumps into Community Service!

PDF Print E-mail

GWCS wasted no time jumping into its first community service project of the school year.  On the first day of school, 14 students joined Mr. Goldie, Mr. Connelly and Ms. Warden to make dog biscuits for the Homeward Trails Animal Shelter.  Homeward Trails seeks to find permanent adoptive homes for dogs and cats from high-kill shelters or whose owners can no longer care for them.

About 300 biscuits were made from a recipe of whole wheat flour, oats, organic beef broth, eggs and peanut butter.  After a little fire in a microwave got things off to an exciting start, an adjustment was made to the cooking time and things went smoothly from there.  Mr. Connelly, Ms. Warden and Nick McHugh tasted the biscuits and declared them “perfectly delicious!”  More importantly, Jimmy (the school dog) also gave his stamp of approval.
