GWCS Walks and Walks Some More... Raising Almost $2,000 for Homeless and Breast Cancer Research

October was a big month for charity fundraising at GWCS. On October 14th, GWCS participated in our 3rdAnnual Wesley Housing mini-walk to raise $900 for the homeless, and on Halloween, GWCS students, parents, and staff participated in the American Cancer Society walk around Nationals Stadium that raised over $1000 for breast cancer research.

The star of the Breast Cancer Walk was undoubtedly science teacher Mr. Matthew Hartman who raised over $600 by agreeing to wear whatever costume was picked by the person who donatedthe most money for the walk. The winning “person” was actually the cast of the Little Theater of Alexandria’s recent run of “The Foreigner,” in which Mr. Hartman played the lead. The Little Theater’s prop mistress, Annie Vroom, mother of Emma Vroom (’12) provided the costume that was…well, it’s better if you just look at the picture…
