GW Students Raise Money to Help the Homeless

PDF Print E-mail

Three weeks before the DC area hosts Fannie Mae's 21st annual Help the Homeless Walkathon, the students and teachers of GWCS held a mini walk to help raise money for, and awareness of the problems affecting the homeless in our area. The students also participated in an activity a few days before the walk, led by Amanda House from Wesley Housing, to help them better understand homelessness. The mini walkathon, held after school on October 29th was a great success with 22 students and 4 teachers showing up for the walk. Numerous parents and friends walked alongside them as well. The students walked the mile from GW to Kings Park Park and back wearing their “help the homeless” shirts and carrying hand made signs. The dedicated students of GWCS were able to raise $915 for the cause. Since 100% of the funds will go directly to Wesley Housing, every dollar the students raised will be used to help prevent and end homelessness in our communities.
