Writing on the Walls

Andrews47Mr. Andrews-Bashan is a dearly-loved teacher at GWCS.  However, this fall he started a new teaching adventure in Guatemala.  Over the past five years, Mr. Andrews-Bashan did many things to leave his mark on GWCS, one of the many things we will always remember Mr. Andrews Bashan for is "Writing on the Walls".  This was an annual project that he used to introduce students to the notions of wisdom and virtue which was the philosophical focus of their first formal paper. The "Writing on the Walls" paper (which is outlined in greater detail later) was a formal argument for why the student should be allowed to write a specific saying directly on the walls of his classroom.

Watch Out Ivy, We’re Back!

CIMG0286GW provides an ongoing community service to the Fairfax County Park Authority by working at nearby King’s park to remove English ivy and other invasive plants that are detrimental to local plant life.  On September 21, a group of GW students and teachers headed back to King’s Park for the first invasive plant removal of the school year.  This community service will be ongoing throughout the year.

SGA in Full Swing... Camping, Geocaching and More

IMG_2650 Although school started only a little more than a month ago, the GWCS SGA has been busy. In September, the SGA and members of the GWCS freshman and sophomore classes went on an overnight camping trip at Burke Lake. Campers played flashlight tag, roasted marshmallows and hotdogs, and went geocaching, a game where you use a GPS to find treasure planted by other geocachers.
