Lo' BOATomy at this Year's Cardboard Boat Regatta
Dr. Cox's Honors Physics class was focused on developing analytical problem-solving skills. As a an end of year project, the class was required build a boat out of cardboard that they can get in and race at the Lake Accotink Cardboard Boat Regatta. The boat was required to be:
• Buoyant enough and of adequate size to support one to three people
• Sit low enough in the water to be stable.
• Maneuverable enough to complete the course at the lake.
• Structurally sound and rigid enough to complete the course with people in it and without collapsing.
• Adequately waterproofed so as to complete the course without falling apart.
• Still afloat at the end of the race (it can’t sink).
This year’s class met 5 out of these 6 challenges, and 5 out of 6 ain’t bad! The kids enjoyed the challenge of the project and had a blast on race day, despite their adventures in capsizing.

Warden's Warriors vs. Goldie's Gladiators
GWCS Improv 2013! After several years away from “make-em-ups” Goldie’s Galdiators and Warden’s Warriors took the stage once again to battle for true improv supremacy at the GW Community School on Friday April 19th. This year former GWCS science/theater/Algebra/PE teacher Matt Hartman returned to the school for a 10-week after school activity for any student interested.
Going once. Going twice. Gone!
This year's St. Patrick's Day Auctions were successful in both the fun and financial categories! On Friday, March 15, 2013 we had our annual live auction and kicked-off our annual silent auction. The live auction, as usual, attracted an eclectic collection of items to sell that were unlike any other auction anywhere. Our community sends in interesting items from their home that they no longer want. Often, these items just appear in a non-descript bag and no one will take credit for having once been the owner of its contents. But we don't discriminate - we'll sell just about anything.
